Hi reader-chans. I'm going to keep my oc as the reader's character so it's easier on me. If reader-chans want her to look different, just imagine her differently. :)

Nikki's pov.

(Thoughts will be in italics for Nikki.)

Okay, Nikki, first day of class at college. We can do this; just ignore all the stares and negative words for as long as possible and we will survive.

Rolling over and sitting on the edge of my bed, I prepared myself to drop down into the embrace of my lifelong friend, Mister Wheelchair.
The wheels squeaked as I nestled my small body into the chair that still had the fresh leather scent to it.

My backpack was already on the back of the chair, not that I need it for anything since I carry my notebook in my lap with a small purse containing pens, pencils and other stuff I may need.

Looking around the room, I spotted the still sleeping form of my roommate. (I need an oc for her roommate so I'll just address the roommate as gender neutral stuff for now.) I guess I'm wheeling myself to my class today if I can't get them up in five minutes.

Rolling over to their sleeping form, I poked their cheek repeatedly until they woke up with a jolt. "I'm up! Oh hey Nikki." They sat on their bed watching me for a moment before realizing what day it is.

"Oh, right, I'm sorry Nikki. I completely forgot I'm taking you to your class until you are comfortable getting there on your own. I'll be ready in a sec."

The always forgetful friend of mine rushed into the bathroom, changed clothes, did whatever else they needed to do, then came back with a piece of toast in their mouth like in some anime we watched last night.

"Alright, to class we go. If you need anything when you get out of class, just text me or find a professor."

(Friend's name) wheeled me down the halls, ignoring all the looks we got from every other student in the hallway. I tried ignoring them, but their words started getting to me.

"What's a retard doing here? I didn't know colleges accepted autistic people. Get out of here retard, no one wants you here and you won't last a week here on your own."

The words resonated from a blonde cheerleader. The cheer captain I'm assuming. She seems to be from a rich family based on her prissy attitude. I despise people like that.

"Just ignore them. If I can't come get you after class, then I'll send someone to get you."

As we wheeled past the cheerleaders, I notice a small golden wire on the locker next to that girl. I must be imagining things again.

We eventually arrived at the small building for handicapped students and (f/n friend's name) wheeled me inside. "I'll see you later, Nikki. Call me if something happens or if you need something."

With that, I was left alone in this building with my special ed teacher. She is a really nice lady to me. She's one of the oldest staff members in the college and she dedicates her life to teaching students like me.

"Are you ready to begin, Nikki?"

(F/n's pov)

I wish I could help Nikki out more than I can. She needs someone to be there for her, but I can't be with her all the time. I have work and I have classes to get to as well. I will try and get people to like her, though. She needs more friends.

"Hey you. You're the one that was with the retard, right?" A group of girls formed a blockade in the hallway, keeping me from my work.
"Yes, I am. Do you have a problem with that, blondie? It's not right to be a bitch to someone just because they are different than you."

"Aww, how sweet. You are protecting the retard. Well you won't be once we're done with you."

Let's just say I got sent from that school in an ambulance from what they did to me. I sure hope Nikki gets back to the dorm okay and doesn't run into those sadistic girls. Who knew that you could disguise lipstick as a knife? I sure didn't.

As those girls were beating me up and stabbing me, I saw gold wires in the hallway. Huh, I must be seeing things.

(Nikki's pov)

(Time skip to about 9:30p.m)

I've been sitting outside the special ed building for a couple hours now. I'm getting worried about (f/n). They must've forgotten about me, so I might as well get back to the dorm on my own.

As I wheeled down the hallways, I saw those golden strings every few feet. I know I'm not hallucinating now. There are definitely strings in the hallway.
The gold strings continued down the halls until I reached my door where a small post-it note was on the door.

(F/n) has been issued into the hospital and will not be returning to this campus for a few weeks until they are fully recovered from their injuries.

It took me a while to read it, but that's why (f/n) didn't show up. Those girls probably beat them up.

Opening the door, my room had some lights on, and a window was open by my bed. Wheeling inside and shutting the door, I found another note attached to one of those golden strings at my desk.

Those girls won't be bothering you anymore, Nikki. We will meet soon.

I was able to read this note a little easier, mainly because of the neat handwriting. Whoever wrote this, I need to thank them for confronting those girls. I need a friend now more than ever and I think I found one.

Just one thing is making me curious.

What's with the golden strings?

I hope you guys like this. I think I did an awesome job with this part. I might introduce more ocs but I definately need one for Nikki's roommate that sadly got sent to the hospital. They will be okay and will probablty be back in a few chaps.
