It’s been almost three months since they’ve been married and Alaanah understood why the whispers called the monster she was living with a cold block of ice. The the man treated her like she didn't exist, never saying a single word to her. No good mornings nor hi, he just passed  her by like she was not there at all.
He even went on a trip for one whole month without saying a word to her about it till she found out from the cleaning lady.

They never went out in public together nor have they ever stayed in the same room for more than five minutes, it was like she was no more than a chair or table and it pained her to think that her hideous looks were adding to his deranged fathers doings.

She knew the main reason there was such tension between them was because she washer fathers’ daughter, a spoilt brat that no one wanted around bringing back hurtful memories of their second day of their honey moon in the Bermuda when Rafael's crawled at her from toe to head and head to toe with a look of disgust in his face that Alaanah was sure she would remember for the reminder of her life;and from that day on she knew that to him she was nothing but a piece of spoilt shit just like the others thought and there was nothing she could do to change that.

The huge penthouse they lived in was all white and lovely, it had less furniture in it as Alaanah would’ve preferred and the ocean view from the living room balcony was what made it more homely to her than she could have hoped. There was only one help an old friendly cleaning lady who came twice a week to help clean the house and that was it. It seemed Rafael was a man of small company.

Never hadthey ever had visitors nor any of his family members coming around that Alaanah wondered if he even had friends.

He ate out all the time and Alaanah cooked small
meals for herself and made sure to clean off the dishes every time. It seemed odd
for a man of his looks and publicity to not have people who hang around him all day it just didn’t make sense.

She sat on the balcony chair the cool breeze blowing her senses clear as she read
her novel, out here she felt safe and at peace and just wanted it to be forever like
this, the outside world wasn’t for her and she had long come to grasp that.

Where they stayed there were a few neighbours and she didn’t know any of them  and preferred it that way,at least that way she can be who she was. Quiet.

The closing door of the living room took her mind from her thoughts as she knew Rafael was home.

Wondering on what to do as always, she froze and settled back on the couch. He
wouldn’t care if she was in or out, he was probably hoping to come home one day to find her gone and she could tell that from the odium look he always gave her every single time they crossed paths.
.........

Rafael was so hungry and worn out from the meeting he’d just had that he didn't
know what to do. There was a board meeting in two days and all board members
needed to be there to make a critical decision on the way forward of the company
and to his dread the thing's presence was mandatory because she owned a piece of his company.

Placing his cellphone and laptop bag on the kitchen counter he headed for the fridge with hope of finding something to eat. In no time he was seated with a sandwich in hand and a glass of orange juice.

He didn’t remember
buying grocery but to the bitches’ luck he thanked her for it. After finishing off his
meal he took off to the balcony knowing that he would find the thing there as always.

Silently looking at her slouchy frame cornered on the couch he stood watching for what seemed like minutes. She seemed so at peace and settled whilst
he the owner of the house was so out of place and edgy. Clearing his throat to get her attention he walked in.

‘On Thursday we have a board meeting and you as part share holder must be there.’
Turning swiftly to get a look at Rafael she chewed on her nails.Did she hear right,
did he just tell her that she was part owner of his company? But why would he do that?
Her mind ran a thousand unanswered questions to which she knew would
remain unanswered. What was he getting at surely it was his father's doing,in no
way would Rafael give her shares of his company? Saying the simplest thing that came to her mind so as to not annoy nor anger him,she turned her nervous eyes back to her book.

‘Okay thanks for letting me known.'
‘Good so you better look presentable.'

And with that he was gone. She didn’t even get to ask what the meeting was about.
Gathering all her will she sighed as pain sliced her. How much more rejection and ignorance can she take? Surely he didn’t expect her to go in blankly and make a fool out of herself did he? Going after him she wondered on what to say just so she could not piss him off.

‘Wait, can you tell me more about this meeting and why am I to come?'
Turning swiftly swiftly his face written irritation all over,he narrowed his beautiful emerald eyes and walked back to her with purpose, his tall frame making him look like a
dark angel on a demon hunt mission.
‘I will fill you in when am refreshed,it’s nothing that big you just have to be there to say yes or no to suggestions that's all. Am sure your little selfish brain can handle that ,can it?’
and with that he strode off with the same movements leaving her utterly speechless.

So he thought her as dumb. She who had gone to MIT to do her cryptography
degree and masters. It wasn’t her fault that she was just too petrified to go around looking for employment, having a job meant meeting people everyday and that was
what she feared the most. People! They were always staring at her, judging her andall ready to chew and spit her out and she wasn’t all ready for that. She had had enough. In all the schools she had attended, all her schooling life she was called horrible names and bullied because of her genius brains and bad looks.

There wasnever any subject she failed and had graduated with first class but regardless of her master’s degree she wasn’t going to risk her quite life to be around people, she loved keeping low. Behind her fathers’ back she had been creating silly applications
that she worked around every time she felt the need to work and that was it.

Shewas sure Rafael wouldn’t understand her passion for computing and cryptographyjust like her father didn’t and she didn’t mind. The only way to deal with pain was toignore it. This was her life and she had no choice but to live it.
