Now before I go any further, I must warn you, that what I'm about to tell you is Top Secret! You must promise me that you shan't repeat these words to anyone! EVER! Swear it! Cross your heart! Cross it......cross your heart! Good, now Grandmama and I and Mr. Fugglewort, of course, went about collecting ingredients for a potion, we collected all sorts of nasty things, lots and lots of ghastly things, oh the horrid things we collected. But for an eight year old boy, such as myself, who loves making mud pies and playing with lizards and such, it was horridly wonderful.
We started with collecting some worms, they're not easy to find, mind you. We went over the edge of the island where the ground was wet and moist, underneath the roots of the tress, then we buried our fingers through the mud and came up with a handful of fat and juicy worms and put them in a jar, labeled "Wrigley Wormies".
Then we went through the tress and collected some giant beetles and some ants and a few lady bugs from the leaves and a few spiders, small ones, giant ones, hairy ones, and put them in a jar, labeled "Creepy Crawlies". We collected some disgusting fat leeches, they were black and rubbery and stretchy, we put them in a jar, labelled, "Liquorice Leeches". We collected all sorts of things, toads, caterpillars, lizards and even scorpions!
So now that we had collected all the ingredients, we had a lunch break, Grandmama and I and Mr. Fugglewort all climbed a tree closer to the ground, we sat on its branch, and Grandmama took out some leftover bread, some cheese and a jar of peanut butter. Grandmama poured us two cups of some lovely Ginger ale and handed Mr. Fugglewort his canned sardines.
After we had done that, we climbed down, and we made a small fire and Grandmama put a pot on the fire, first, she put some tree sap from the oak tree, she always carries a bottle of this. Then she brought it up to a boil, till it was steaming and sticky, then she put six fat worms and four heads of the beetles. Once she let them simmer for a while, she added twelve skewered and roasted ants and five crushed lady bugs. After giving them a good stir with a stick, Grandmama put two small spiders, two big spiders and twelve legs of the hairy spiders then she waited for all these to boil for a few minutes. Grandmama stretched then coiled four leeches and baked them in the ash from the fire, then added them to the boil which had turned a shade of green. She put seven fat caterpillars, then four eyes and two tongues of the toads and gave the boiling mess another stir, till it boiled down to a disgusting glob. Finally, Grandmama added two heads of the lizards and chopped the tail off the scorpion and crushed it into a gooey black paste and added that to the green boil, which turned it into a disgusting purple.
Grandmama drained the boil and put it into a small glass bottle, it only amounted to about four teaspoons, but that was all we needed. This was the potion that was going to help us capture the bad witch or witches.
After we were done with making the potion, Grandmama handed me the small bottle of the magical potion to keep in my pocket and we made our way deeper into the island in search of the bad witch.
Oh I can smell her already, I tell you! We're getting closer, Mr. Fugglewort is becoming restless in my backpack too, he keeps sticking his head out and meowing. The trees look more dead as we make our way deeper into this islands, very disturbing yet the true sign that a witch lives here.
I can see something not far ahead, it resembles a house, of sorts.
Oh! What's that I hear?
I have to go now,I'll get back to you.
