Chapter 2: Facing the Truth
“Beep Beep Beep Beep BEEEP!!” I groaned. Please alarm clock stop, would you stop ringing? I wish I had a snooze on this thing! I’ll just wait for Dallon to get up and turn it off himself. Come on Dallon. Any day now! I shouted “DALLON COME SHUT OFF THIS ANNOYING TH-“ Until it hit me. I just realized.
Oh wait…h-he can’t do that anymore. So what am I waiting for? I let out a whimper. I’ll just get up. After I got dressed and brushed my teeth, I pulled my hair back into a pony tail. I am so not making an effort today. I don’t care what people think of me. I look at my appearance, barely satisfied. I have on yoga pants and a baggy pull-over sweatshirt. More of the depressed look…because I am. I have no one to impress. After all, I’m single now.
I get downstairs and glance over at my parents. I stormed out the door before they had a chance to say anything to me. It’s the first time I’ve been outside since I got home from the hospital. My brother’s old smashed up car isn’t here anymore. They didn’t even bother fixing it because of how messed up it was. I shook my head and waiting for Em to arrive.
She pulled up blasting Electronic music. She would. I rolled my eyes jokingly and she shouted “Jump on in! Let’s blow this taco stand!!” I nearly bursted out laughing. That was the hardest I ever laughed in a while. I don’t even think I’ve even laughed since the accident.
“LEGGO EMMA!” I opened the car door. I was trying to be a little joyful for her. After all, Dallon was her first love. She is probably just as heartbroken as me.
She looked at me trying not to laugh, and succeeded. She can really hold a straight face. “You know, leggo means ‘I am reading.’ Why are you sharing that false information? I see no book in your hands.”
ONLY EMMA. “Haha! Just drive, woman!” Oh jeez. I just realized how scared I am to be in a car again. I closed my eyes tightly the whole where there praying we’d get there quickly.
We stepped out of the car and into the building. So far, no Sam. Crap…I forgot he was in my first period class. Luckily, so was Emma. We both stopped at the door way of the class room and she gave me a knowing look.
“Don’t sweat it, Arie. You know, he’s one of those kinds of people who just make you gag when they smile…”
“Hah! Tell me about it!” I said too quickly. What was she going on about? I look around the class room and I locked eyes with him. He was smiling. So that’s what she was talking about.
I was the first one to break the tense eye contact with him. We both hurried to our seats which happened to be close to him. Of course! Thank you so much, my stupid teacher! I rolled my eyes.
I can just feel his eyes on me. It’s creeping me the hell out.
I had fifteen minutes before the bell, still. I grabbed Emma’s hand and ran for the door, and into the hallway.
“Sorry I just can’t deal with him now.” I confessed.
“It’s all good. You know-“ She suddenly stopped talking and started staring ahead. Huh? I followed her gaze and saw A gorgeous guy. He had messed but not too long brown hair that fell right before his deep brown eyes. His smile was angelic. Angelic was even an understatement.
He looked me straight in the eye and he gave me a small smile. I think my insides just melted. A shiver ran down my body and I snapped myself out of it.
“He’s a god,” She breathed.
“He’s not THAT good-looking.’ Lie.
“Oh come on! Guys don’t get better looking than he is.”
