elle and klaus had been avoiding eye contact since the bar. they were now trudging through the mountains with stefan trailing behind, carrying an unconscious werewolf.

"you know, i like him better when he's knocked out." elle points, earning a chuckle from stefan and a small smile from nik, that she ignored. silence settled on the group for awhile and elle took the time to breathe in the atmosphere. the smoky mountains were made up of dense forest, beautiful views and werewolves. the silence was irking nik and he felt the need to break it, though he couldn't bring himself to try and strike up conversation with elle - so he opted for the only other option.

"you ok? is ray getting heavy?" klaus smiled at stefan, only to get bluntly rejected by the younger vampire, who mumbled a 'fine' in response. "you sure about that? you know, we've been walking for quite some time now. if you need some water or a little sit-down..."

"you know, i get that we're uh, stuck together. but it would be much appreciated if we could skip the chit chat."

"i completely agree with you stefan, i'd gladly avoid any contact with nik."

klaus rolled his eyes at her comment, clenching his jaw. before she can react, he uses his speed to pin her against a tree, one hand holding elle by her throat and the other on her waist. stefan rolls his eyes before carrying on with his trek, grumbling to himself as he carried ray ahead. elle stayed composed, glaring straight at her ex lover.

"you know love, i don't like your tone." niklaus growled, eyeing elle. she became increasingly angry at how he was speaking to her and narrowed her eyes.

"you're stupid if you think we're not equally strong." she seethed, switching posistions with the male hybrid and grasping his throat. "you don't get a say in how i speak or act anymore darling, you gave up that right the minute you stabbed me with that wretched dagger." elle fumed.

klaus could see the hot tears forming in her eyes and for a second his stormy expression faltered. for a second he saw that beautiful village girl that his young self had fallen in love with. but as soon as the feeling arose, it was buried almost immediately within him.

"you know, love - if you can't stand to be around me so much, why stay? it's not like i can stop you." klaus seethed, hoping that the venom in his voice would hide the fact that he wanted her to stay. "what's keeping you here?"

"maybe it's the last little bit of me that gives a damn about you." she responded, her face becoming hot with anger. elle pushed klaus away from her and sped away before he could respond, leaving the male hybrid speechless.

"so it looks like thanks to our pal ray, we found ourselves a pack." klaus smirks, looking around at the small camp of what elle could clearly identify by smell, as werewolves.

stefan steps forward, immediately catching the attention of members of the pack. elle tried to hide a chuckle that wanted to escape her lips, it certainly was hard to act inconspicuous with knocked out werewolf slung over your shoulder.

stefan sighs before dropping ray to the ground carelessly, drawing even more eyes to the three of them.

"ray, oh my god!" a woman rushes forward and warily tries to check over ray. "What's going on, who are you?" stefan doesn't reply and instead looks over to klaus and elle.

it was at this point that klaus and elle stepped forward next to stefan. elle placed a hand firmly on stefan's shoulder with a smirk on her lips. "the real question, darling, is who am I."

"don't forget me, love." klaus smirks, speeding around next to the fellow hybrid and pulling her away from the youngest salvatore. niklaus wraps an arm tightly around her waist and elle rolls her eyes at his behaviour. when they used to be together, klaus always liked for them to give of the vibe of a power-couple that you'd be stupid to mess with and elle went along with it and melted into his touch back then because she loved him.

but things were different now and instead of her knees becoming weak at the feel of him holding her, she shrugged him off coldly.

klaus' smirk faltered slightly at this and it would be hardly noticeable if you weren't looking for it, but he was hurt. elle kept here gaze forward and her expression icy, not giving him the satisfaction of knowing that he was affecting her.

returning focus on the werewolf infront of them, the pair noticed that her eyes had widened in realisation. "you two - you're the hybrids."

klaus' false, cocky smirk was replaced with a sly grin as he raised his eyebrows. "you've heard of us, fantastic."
