Chapter 1 - Take A Bow

Hi there! Here's the first chapter of my second Muse fanfic, Invincible! I hope you all enjoy it! Sorry if this chapter's a bit short and boring though, but otherwise I couldn't really get it started... Please tell me what you think of it, for that would really help me out!

*1988*

It was a rainy day in Cambridge, and that fit perfectly with my mood. Today my best friend, Matt, was going to move to Teignmouth, after his parents had divorced. Matt was two years older than me, so we weren’t in the same year at school, but he lived in the house next to ours, so we used to spend a lot of time together anyway. Until today. Today he was going to move to Teignmouth, about 260 miles away from Cambridge. I stared out of the window, at the men that were dragging all of the furniture into a van. Suddenly the doorbell rang. I ran to the door and opened it to find Matt standing there.

“Hey,” he said awkwardly.

“Hi there,” I answered, sheepishly looking at my 10 year old best friend.

“Mum says we’ll be leaving in awound 5 minutes,” Matt informed me, “so I came to say goodbye.”

“Oh,” was all I could say, tears filling my eyes.

“I’ll miss you, Hailey,” he said, hugging me. I hugged him back.

“You can’t go,” I cried.

“I have to Hailey, otherwise mummy will get mad,” Matt told me.

“You can come live with us,” I remarked.

“But mum will miss me,” Matt stated.

“But now I have to miss you, you’re my only friend here in Cambridge!” I cried.

“I am sowwy Hailey, but I will call you when we’re in Teignmouth, okay?” Matt put forward.

“Promised?”

“Pwomised. You’ll be my best friend forever okay?”

“Okay.”

“You’ll make some new fwiends, alright?” Matt told me.

“I’ll try,” I replied.

“Matthew James Bellamy, get over here! We’re leaving right now!” I heard Marilyn, Matt’s mum, yell.

“I have to go Hailey, but I’ll call you as soon as I’m there!” Matt said, and before I could hug him, the 10 year old boy turned around and walked towards the car, sat down, and then Marilyn drove off with him and his brother Paul, all the way to Teignmouth. Matt kept his promise and called me a few times when he was in Teignmouth, but soon he made new friends and he started to forget about the tiny eight year old girl that once used to be his best friend. And as I got older, I slowly did the same.

 

*2006*

“But I’ve never heard about them before!” Jess exclaimed when Hailey asked her to come along with Hailey to a gig Muse was going to play in London.

“They’re great! Wait, I’ll put on their new album! I’m sure you’ll love it!” Hailey replied, and she grabbed Muse’s new album, Black Holes And Revelations from the table, for she had bought it earlier that day. She put it in the stereo and both girls listened to Take A Bow.
