Hi guys, here a new chapter of Invincible! I'm sorry that this chapter's a bit rushed, but it was hard for me to write this, so please forgive me?

The following months were hard on Hailey, and on Matt too, even though he hadn’t really known Jess for that long, but the hardest part for him was to see Hailey being so hurt. Especially because sometimes he had to leave her alone at home to play a gig with Muse. Hailey herself didn’t think about Matt that much anymore. Sure she loved him, she really did and she really appreciated his attempts to cheer her up, thing was that it was all to no avail. Hailey could only think (read: worry) about Jess, whose death was coming closer and closer and Hailey feared it. Jess hadn’t been conscious ever since she got into the hospital. Hailey didn’t eat anymore, nor did she sleep. She would sit on the couch while staring at a television that wasn’t turned on, stare at a book without her eyes seeing the letters, or constantly turn around in bed, keeping Matt awake too, for he slept at her place to make sure she was safe. He found it all terrifying to see, to be honest. Hailey had told him many times to go back home to Chris and Dom to get some rest, but he constantly refused and stayed with his girlfriend. Some nights Hailey would try to leave the house to have a midnight walk but Matt wouldn’t let her, afraid that she might get involved in an accident since she was so off-minded. One time he joined her though, because he couldn’t sleep either and so together they walked through the streets of London at 3AM. Hailey let it all out and finally told Matt about how worried and sad, or actually, depressed she was and it even came to the point where she broke down crying loudly on the middle of Piccadilly Circus, which, even at 3AM, was crowded, so Matt took her by the hand to get her away from all the staring eyes. And eventually, on January the 11th 2008, the moment came. Jess’s mum called Hailey’s mobile phone, but Hailey didn’t notice anything as she was staring at the telly again, so Matt picked up.
“Matt Bellamy?”
A cracked voice spoke up. “Hi, uh, this is Nancy McKinnon… Are you… Hailey’s boyfriend?”
“Yes, ma’am, that’s me,” Matt replied.
“Where’s Hailey, I need her… it’s… it’s time… Please come to the hospital, please…” Jess’s mum begged as her voice broke.
“We’re leaving wight now,” Matt said and he wanted to add ‘don’t worry’ but he figured that it wasn’t really smart to do that, since Nancy’s daughter was dying, so of course she was worried. Matt quickly hung up and turned around.
“Hailey,” Matt said as he shook her shoulder. He repeated her name, a little bit louder now, since Hailey didn’t respond.
“Hmh?”
“Get in the car, now,” he growled with tears in his eyes as he jerked his girlfriend off of the couch and he guided her to the car. He feared the state she was going to enter after Jess’s death. As if the state she was in at the moment wasn’t worse enough yet. He hated life sometimes.
For Matt drove way faster than allowed, they arrived at the hospital real soon. Hailey suddenly was completely awake, conscious and full of adrenaline, so side by side, she and Matt ran through the clean white halls. Instead of taking the elevator, they sped up the stairs and rushed into Jess’s room. Hailey glanced immediately at the monitor. Every pulse caused a beep, and the machine would still beep every now and then, meaning that Jess was still alive. Hailey grabbed her best friend’s hand, as the machine began to beep less and less often. After a few minutes a doctor came in, glanced at the monitor too and said in a soft voice: “The end’s almost here… I’m very sorry.” Nancy, Jess’s mum, started crying, but since her husband deceased a few years ago too, she had no shoulder to bury her face in. Hailey did though, so she grabbed Matt’s arm with her free hand, still holding Jess’s with her other hand, and buried her face in Matt’s shoulder. For the first time after months of being numb, she cried. Suddenly the machine that was connected to Jess’s body, gave a long beep that didn’t stop until the same doctor came running back into the room and turned it off.
