"We're here." You lifted your forehead off of the cool glass where it had been the entire drive. "Hmm?" You asked, bringing your eyes to Hoseok's. He didn't respond, just rested his forehead on the steering wheel, closing his eyes. You went to open the door, but, for some unknown reason, you couldn't bring yourself to leave. You pushed your hair back, taking a long, shaky breath. Suddenly, you found yourself reaching out, brushing your fingertips over Hoseok's shoulder. He lifted his face and turned to you. When his eyes met yours, you felt a little flutter in the pit of your stomach. Hoseok studied you for a moment before taking your hand in both of his. Before you could even react, he was talking. "Why are you with him?" He asked, the pleading tone in his voice breaking your heart. "I-" You tried to respond, but Hoseok cut you off, talking over you. "I mean, I know he loves you, and he's a great kid and all..." His voice trailed off. While you were trying to gather your thoughts and decide how to respond, Hoseok started talking again. "He's just a kid." Now, he scooted closer to you, taking one hand and running it over your face, stopping with his thumb grazing your ear. His voice dropped into a low, husky tone. "If you ask me, I think you deserve a real man." Hoseok gave you a devilish smirk before leaning in to kiss you. Before his lips even touched yours, though, you leaned away, pulling your hand out of his grasp. For an instant, you saw how much it hurt him. There was so much pain behind his eyes, so much vulnerability. It made you want to reach out and touch him. You wanted to do anything, everything you possibly could to keep him from ever looking like that again. But, almost as soon as you saw it, it was gone. His eyes were cold, stony. You knew he had buried those emotions deep down. You wanted to say something, to say you were sorry, anything, to make it better. But, as Hoseok turned the key in the ignition, hard eyes staring straight ahead through the windshield, you knew that it was too late. There was nothing you could say. "Thanks for the ride." You said weakly, your voice barely more than a whisper. Hoseok just pursed his lips, not even looking at you. As soon as the car door was shut behind you, Hoseok was speeding off to who knows where, leaving you behind. You stood watching him go until you couldn't see the car anymore, your eyesight blurred with tears.

Later, after riding the filthy bus home, you walked through the front door empty-handed and heavy-hearted. You heard Jungkook padding towards the kitchen and you quickly checked your reflection in the entryway mirror. Satisfied with your appearance, you plastered on a smile and greeted Jungkook tiredly. "No food?" Jungkook pouted, wrapping his arms around you. "I forgot they were closed on Saturdays." You were getting so good at lying. "Oh yeah. So did I." Jungkook nodded against your hair. "Hey I got rid of the guys." he said, pulling back so he could meet your eyes. The fake smile you had put on turned into a real one. Jungkook could always make you smile, no matter what the circumstances. He raised an eyebrow at you suggestively and you laughed, a little harder than you should have. It was like the tension and sadness just had to leave your body somehow. "Always such a gentleman. Aren't going to at least buy me dinner first?" You asked. Jungkook feigned offense. "Of course! What kind of man would I be if I didn't treat my beautiful girlfriend to dinner?" You winced slightly, remembering Hoseok's words. I think you deserve a real man. His words rang in your mind. For some reason, it angered you. Jungkook is just as much a man as you, you thought, Maybe even more so. At least he doesn't come onto his friend's girl. Your face must have shown your discomfort because Jungkook looked at you confusedly. "What's wrong? Do you not want to go out?" You didn't answer. With a ferocity previously unknown to you, you smashed your lips against Jungkook's. It took him a confused moment, but, before long, he was kissing you back with just as much passion. He broke his lips away from yours to run them along your jaw, leading to your ear. "I see you're hungry for something else again." He whispered lowly before running his teeth lightly over your earlobe, exactly where Hoseok's thumb had been. "I love you, Kookie." You said fiercely, telling yourself just as much as him. Jungkook buried his face in the crook of your neck, breathing in your scent, before responding. "I love you, too." He whispered before picking you up and carrying you to your room.

The next morning, you awoke to empty space beside you yet again. He has got to stop running off every morning, you thought to yourself, sitting up and stretching. You climbed out of bed and threw on a pair of short, white cotton shorts and a tank top, pulling your hair into a messy ponytail before venturing out into the hallway. You walked into the living room and flopped down on the couch. "Jungkookie!" You whined loudly, hoping he would take the bait and come cuddle you. "Yeah he's not here." A familiar voice called back to you. You groaned quietly into the couch. You picked yourself up off of the couch and let your feet drag you into the dining room, where the voice had been coming from. You leaned up against the doorframe, crossing your arms over your chest. "What are you doing here? Where's Jungkook?" You asked, almost accusingly. Hoseok stared ferociously back at you, not batting an eyelash at your glare. "He had to drive to Seoul with Namjoon. Don't ask me why. I have no idea." He said, looking back down at his phone in his hand. "Okay," You said, a biting edge still lingering in your voice. "That explains where Jungkook is. Now, why are you here?" Hoseok let out an exasperated sigh, as if you were an annoying child asking too many questions. "He didn't want you to be alone. So he asked me to come over. Me," He continued, a hint of arrogance ringing in his voice. "Being the good friend I am-" You interrupted him with an exaggerated scoff. "I graciously agreed." Hoseok finished, ignoring your rudeness. "Look, I don't want to be here just as much as you don't want me here." Hoseok said bitingly. You shook your head before turning and stalking out of the room and flopping back down onto the couch. You groaned loudly, hoping Hoseok would hear your discomfort. You reached your hand out and grabbed your phone off of the table in front of you.

You: I don't need a babysitter.

A few seconds later, your phone buzzed in your hand.

Kookie: I can never be too sure. I don't want my little princess cheating

;)

You scoffed at the irony, before texting back.

You: Oh, so you can't trust me now?

Kookie: I do trust you. I just didn't want you to be lonely.

Kookie: Look I'll be home in a few hours. I'll make it up to you, I promise.

You: How?

Kookie: I'll bring home some food. We can watch a movie?

You smiled down at your phone, the promise of more cuddle time with Jungkook making you momentarily forget Hoseok in the dining room.

You: Okay. But hurry home.

You: I miss you.

You added, figuring it might get him home a little sooner.

Kookie: I'm hurrying, Princess. I'll see you in a bit.

Kookie: I love you!

You: I love you, too. Now go do something important.

Almost as soon as Jungkook stopped texting you, Hoseok walked into the living room and flopped down on the other side of the couch. You scowled and got up to leave. "Y/N, wait." Hoseok said pleadingly, all of the bitterness that had been in his voice gone. You stopped, but you didn't turn around. You gritted your teeth. It's so much easier to hate him when he's making it obvious the feeling's mutual, You thought. "What?" You sighed, almost tiredly. You heard Hoseok take a deep breath. "It's just... I'm sorry, okay? I really am. I shouldn't have kissed you. It was wrong. Can we just try to go back to the way we were?" For some reason, his words made your heart ache, just a little. "I don't like fighting with you." Hoseok added quietly. You turned around and looked at him, before nodding. He smiled. "Really?" He asked, his eyes sparking hopefully. You let out a little laugh before sitting back down on the sofa, notably closer to him. "Get the remote, loser." Hoseok laughed. So did you.
