I had Ned run Elias's intel straight to Brianna. I still couldn't get more than three words out to her, and this report definitely required words.
About the time I figured Ned would have finished his report, Brianna called the team in for an emergency meeting. I guess she'd got the report. Also, dang. Another meeting.
'Thank you for gathering so quickly, team. I've made my final decision.' The room was silent in anticipation.
'We cannot put all of humanities eggs in one basket. We are going to split into three groups.' The group buzzed in shock, splitting up had not come up in any previous conversations with the president.
'Split-up!' 'Far too dangerous' 'What if we...'
'Quiet! This is my final decision. One group will head to Alpha Centauri, one to TRAPPIST-1 and one will explore the outer edges of our solar system before returning to Earth when the nuclear winter and radiation will have calmed down.'
'Our group will go to Alpha Centauri?' interrupted ass-face.
Brianna paused and waited for the group to quiet, 'Our group will be the largest with 14 ships, and will be the group tasked with colonising TRAPPIST-1.'
'No! We must go to Alpha Centauri!' you-know-who shouted.
'What is with you and your obsession with doing the stupidest possible thing EVERY TIME?!' I shout.
'I have not once acted stupidly,' ass-face retorted.
'Have too!'
'Have not!'
I stopped suddenly, aware of the eyes in the room observing our childish displays. I drew myself up with all remaining dignity. 'Sorry, team. Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.'
