Ice Cream and Kale
*CRASH!*
"SHIT!"
"Xavier, calm down." I say lowly.
"I'm never going to get it." He shouted in anger.
"Not with that attitude you won't." I growl irritated.
"Just forget it! It's useless trying to explain it to you anyway, because you're good at it and I'm just plainly pathetic!"
"Xavier..." I trail off walking up to where he was on the ground after crashing through the light brown, wooden table in the middle of the "sitting room".
Let me explain. When a guest is being taught how to fight they're taught in a room set up as a place they would actually encounter and might be attacked at. Today's training is set up as a house, in the event that they're attacked at home.
"Don't."
Ignoring his warning I sit down beside him and pull my knees up and hug them to my chest. Today is the second Saturday of me training him and it's going pretty terribly for him I suppose. I'm really good at self defence I mean I've been doing it since my parents died. It takes a lot of practice, even if you're a natural.
"Xavier..." I start, "Look at me."
"No." He replies shortly.
"C'mon you big baby." I say swatting his shoulder.
"What?!" He growls turning to look at me.
"What's your favourite ice-cream?" I say nonchalantly ignoring his tone.
"Erm...vanilla chocolate chip." He replies hesitantly.
"Really? I'd have pegged you as a pure vanilla guy." I say.
He stares back at me blankly for a moment, then a small smile snakes its way onto his face and amusement dances in his eyes.
"What's yours?" He asks.
"Mint chocolate chip." I reply dreamily. ♡
"Huh! I'd have pegged you as a pure chocolate kind of girl." He replies mocking me.
"Well, now we've both proved each other wrong." I reply chuckling.
"I guess so."
"Have you ever eaten kale?" I ask randomly.
"Yes, it's a rather disgusting vegetable! It's so bitter." He replies scrunching up his face.
I chuckled, "Only if it isn't prepared right. Anyway, there's a time Peachy decided it was all we would eat. She'd fry it, boil it, bake chicken wrapped in it; she'd even blend it into smoothies, for my break. I really hated it, I was fine with the occasional plate of it, but every meal was a bit much. After sometime though, it just became another taste we got used to, then she discovered squash." I say grimacing at the memory of Squash smoothies.
"Well, thank God those discoveries happened before our arrival." He whispers sheepishly.
"Haha yeah, well my point is that some things come easy to our taste buds, like ice cream with chocolate chips," I say smiling, "And some things are like kale, which is an acquired taste. Fighting for me was easy when I was learning, especially because I was younger, but for some people they have to work harder and take it slow, but the fact that they're trying means that one day they might actually enjoy it, or at least get used to it enough to be good at it. I mean even Xena has to come in for sessions so that she doesn't become rusty and she's almost as good as me."
"Are you sure she isn't better than you?" He asks challengingly.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure. Seriously though, did you get the analogy?" I ask chuckling.
"Yeah thanks. I'm actually starting to think that maybe you're really smart." He said getting up offering me a hand to pull me up.
"Haha you should tell that to my Geography teacher." I said rolling my eyes but smiling.
"Hey, Damien?" He called as we started walking out of the training room.
"Yeah?" I said looking at him.
"All this ice cream talk has got me craving...and I was wondering if you wanted to go out for some? If you're not busy, which I'm pretty sure you aren't." He said smirking.
"Craving?" I chuckled, "You sound like a girl on her period. And I'll have you know I'm plenty busy."
"So is that a yes?" He asked his smirk growing.
"Sure." I said smiling.
He turned to walk in the direction of the guys' changing rooms, but turned back.
"One more thing."
"Yes?" I asked.
"Since I'm new here, I don't know any of the parlors...so you'd have to lead the way." He said scratching his neck.
After a short laugh, I said, "Sure. Meet you at the reception in half an hour."
"Great." He said winking at me, turning and jogging away.
OMG! Did he just ask me out??? I thought to myself my lips curling into a smile. Nuh, you need to chill. Y'all live together, he's just being polite. Or not. I don't know. What I do know though, is that you need to take a bath. I think to myself as I walk into the empty changing room.
