It was a quiet afternoon, one like any other.

A little boy sees a girl alone on the swings. She looked familiar, but he couldn't quite remember why.

He was supposed to go back home already, mama told him to get back before dinner and he was sure to get scolded if he didn't arrive on time. He promised his mama and he never breaks his promises.

But the little boy felt an unusual pull to the girl and he couldn't just ignore it. Placing his bike against the slide, he looked at her with curiosity.

He took one, two steps towards the girl and noticed that she was crying. His mama always told him to never make girls, or anyone for that matter, cry and it made him mad.

He sat on the other swing, but being the shy guy he is, he couldn't say hello. He listened to the soft sobs of the girl and it broke his pure heart.

"Why are you here?" she said after a while. Her voice reminded him of honey and candy and everything sweet but with a hint of bitter coffee.

"Oh, I don't know. Why are you here?"

"Why, does the playground belong to you?"

The little boy laughed a bit. He turned towards the girl who was looking at her shoes and playing with the hem of  her dress. "It doesn't, I was just curious."

"You're Sol, right? My mommy told me about you because she knows your mommy." she wiped her nose with the back of her hand and lifted her head. She finally stopped crying but it was evident on her face that she was still troubled.

"I don't know your name though." Sol blushed a little bit out of embarrassment, which the girl thought was cute.

"That's okay. I'm Luna," she said, tucking her hair behind her ear. Sol could see her face now, pale skin and rosy cheeks, twinkling eyes and a hint of a smile. "We moved here a few days ago and I'm supposed to go to school but things happen I guess."

"Why were you crying?"

"Daddy went to heaven. At least, that's what Mommy said," after the words left her mouth, Luna started crying again. She covered her face with her hands and she couldn't stop sobbing. "He said he'll always be there but now he's not."

There was only the sound of Luna's crying and swings creaking and leaves rustling.

"I'll always be with you," Sol smiled at Luna, an innocent and pure smile. One that hasn't been tainted by the cruel world and one that was hopeful and bright. "No, scratch that, we'll always be together."

"You promise?" Luna looked up at her new friend, smiling for the first time since her father passed away. The emptiness in her heart can never go away but maybe it can be filled with a newfound love.

"I promise."
