A boy and a girl walk in the busy halls of their school.
Sol, who recently turned seventeen, talks about underaged drinking with his best friend, Luna.
"Lulu, c'mon, I look eighteen and I'm nearly eighteen! What's stopping me from taking a few shots at Orion's party next Friday?"
"Um, the law?" Luna says, distracted. Her eyes are fixed on the students rushing out of a nearby classroom, searching for a particular pair of green eyes. "Can't you wait for one more year?"
"Yeah I probably could, but we'll be seniors next year and-" Sol stops talking when he sees his best friend, his best friend that he fell hopelessly in love with years ago but is too afraid to admit it, stopped listening. "Lulu?"
He follows her line of vision, wondering what could be taking her attention. "Luna, hey, you alright?"
But Luna couldn't hear him, all she sees is bright, green eyes and a charming smile that belonged to Earth. He's laughing at something his friends said, completely unaware of his effect on Luna.
She finally snaps back to reality when her view on Earth is blocked by Sol, who has a worried look on his face. "Hey, can you come down from the clouds?"
"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to zone out like that." She laughs, moving away from her friend to get another glimpse at her crush.
Sol is all too familiar with who she's looking at. He noticed that she'd been staring at Earth whenever he's there, smiling too much whenever he would say hello, and drawing tiny, blue planets on the corners of her notebook.
He wonders if he confessed earlier, he would have had a chance.
"He's looking at me." Luna whispers to herself, a smile forming on her lips. Her eyes are locked on to Earth's and he's smiling too. She didn't know if he was smiling at her or smiling at something Mars said, but it was something that made her heart beat a little faster.
But then his smile faded and he turned his back.
"Oh, he looked away."
Now Sol knew that telling Luna his feelings would only result to him losing their friendship. It would be too awkward, she didn't feel the same way. And then what? Sure, he had other friends but his bond with Luna could never be matched.
"So, when did you plan on telling me that you had a thing for Earth?" He forces a laugh, hoping she wouldn't notice the jealousy in his tone. Luna blushed, tucking a hair behind her ear and laughing a little.
"You figured it out?"
"C'mon Lulu, it's a little obvious how you completely fall apart when he's within a twenty meter radius." Although it hurt, she was still his best friend. Her happiness is his happiness, whether it was choosing someone else rather than him.
"And you're not mad? I know you and Earth had a little falling out before." Luna says hesitantly, knowing that it's a touchy subject for Sol.
Sol and Earth used to be close friends, but they had a fight because Earth was Earth and he expected to have special treatment from everyone else, he expected everyone to give him what he wanted whenever he wanted it. Sol didn't like sucking up to him, that's not what friends are, he said. Earth didn't like it when someone went against him, and before Sol could even say another word, Earth swung his fist at his friend. Ever since then, they maintained a civil relationship but never spoke again.
"No, of course not. I won't get in the way if you really like him. I just have to warn you though, he can be a little demanding."
"I think he's changed, and I think he likes me," Luna didn't really know if he had changed, but there was just a certain attraction to him that she could not ignore. "If we got together, would you still be my friend?"
"Friends, that's all we'll ever be, right?" Was what Sol wanted to say. But he just laughed and nodded.
"You promised we'll always be friends, yeah?"
Sol nodded again, although he knew that wasn't what he promised to her before.
