The World as I Know It

Awake and Greet the Sun

The Earth still spins

and the birds still chirp. 

And the sun still rises

as the river still runs. 

For life goes on

with or without you.

And it does not stop

when the going gets tough. 

Perhaps we could just lay here

basking in the sun. 

Listening to the birds chirp

and to the river run.

Perhaps we can just watch-

watch life from the outside.

For the Earth still spins

whether we are aboard or not.

But if the river did stop running

then the fish would die. 

And if the sun stopped rising

then the birds wouldn't sing. 

So perhaps I will awaken

and wave to dawn.

Perhaps I will awaken

and greet the sun.
