Chapter 5 - The 3 Amigos And A Jerk

“Aaah, this is wonderful!” I exclaimed and took a sip from my ice-cold tropical juice. Rosanne, Maria and I had been on the beach for nearly the whole day. Rosanne had been chasing guys while Maria and me had surfed. We were taking a deserved break now. Nothing could compare to lying in the sand, tanning while drinking a super good juice.

“You bet, I’ve never relaxed more than this before.” Rosanne said and stifled a yawn, stretching out on her towel.

“So are you guys ready for tomorrow?” She continued and rolled around on her stomach.

“No.”

“Yes.” Rosanne looked between us and laughed.

“Seriously, it’s awesome that you’re ready Maria but why aren’t you?” She asked and pointed at me.

“Seriously, I stand no chance against either Maria or Mr. Jerk face.” I sighed and looked out towards the ocean. I sure didn’t want to go out of the competition before it nearly hadn’t started. I had even said that I was going to show Mr. Jerk face that I could be better than him. He had been a champion for over 5 years! No one had ever beaten him in surfing, it was like he was the surfing god or something.

“You’ll never win with that attitude you know. You have to look on the bright side, that you can actually do this!” Maria said and took a sip from her juice.

“Have you seen me surf these past couple of hours?”

“Well yeah, why?”

“I fell off my board on those tricks you could easily do!”  I complained and raised myself up. I had to practice more and I wasn’t going to quit practicing until I was satisfied.

“You know to much practice isn’t good.” Rosanne and Maria said in chorus. I looked at them funny, they had no idea how scary much alike they were. Their personalities were only inches apart. I had already lost count on how many times they had said things in chorus.

“I knew you too would become great friends.” I shook my head with a smile playing on my lips.

“But don’t worry, I won’t practice much more. I just need to surf a little bit more.”

“Okay, have fun.” They chorused again.

“Seriously! How can you guys do that all the time?” They looked at each other before they broke out into laughter.

“I don’t know.”

“Me neither.”

“Well I’m off into the waves!” I chirped and grabbed my board, running towards the sea and jumping into it. I immediately started to paddle out when I saw a big wave coming up. It was perfect to train with.

~*~

“You’re crazy. That last wave was huge! And you say that you can’t do any tricks without falling!” Maria smiled as we had started to walk home.  Turned out that Maria didn’t live far away from where we lived. She only had to walk a little bit farther than us.

“Psh, you’re only saying that to be nice.” I said, brushing her off.

“No, you really were amazing out there. You’re always smiling and having the time of your life out on the waves once you let your thoughts go.  Oh, Jay actually stopped and watched for a short time with shocked eyes.”

“What really? Ugh, that Jerk face.” Rosanne looked at me confused.

“Jerk face?” She asked looking like a question mark.

“You know, Jay? Jay Moore?”  She snapped her fingers and her face lit into a smile.

“Oh, yeah. That jerk.”

“I swear I’m going to crush him, I’ll show him tomorrow!” I clenched my one of my fist and sent it into the air with a cheer.

“I’ll try and help you.” Maria smiled and sent her own fist up beside mine.

“Guys, I’m feeling left out now because I don’t surf.” Rosanne pouted and crossed her arms. Both Maria and I stopped up before we turned around and hugged her.

“Don’t feel alone, we’re now officially the tres amigos.”  Maria smiled.

“Yay, I’m an amigo too.” Rosanne cheered, cracking a smile.

“We never said you weren’t.”

“I’m just kidding with you guys. You’ll probably see more to me once you’re out on the waves too. I’ll be the one cheering the loudest.” We laughed and talked the rest of the way home.  We parted when we came to Leilani’s house. Maria had said she lived farther in to the small village.

“You girls look tired, has it been fun?” Leilani asked as we entered. I put my board away in the storage room Leilani had.

“It has been awesome.” I smiled but a yawn interrupted me. She chuckled at us as Rosanne also started to yawn.

“How can you be tired when you haven’t even surfed all day?” I asked and sat down by the kitchen table. Leilani was cooking dinner and it seemed like it was almost ready, it smelled like homemade pizza.

“Hey, I was actually out in the water swimming with you guys at some point.”

“Oh and chasing guys also must take some energy out of you.” Leilani and I both laughed as Rosanne’s cheeks turned a bright red color.

“I-I wasn’t chasing that much. Besides I met Trevor, he promised that he would call me tonight.” She sighed and sat down, looking dreamily into the distance. My stomach at that point decided that this was a good time to let out a huge growl. I clutched at my stomach and looked up embarrassed.

“I’m apparently hungry.”

“Here, eat up.” Leilani said with a chuckle and put down a plate with a pizza slice on it.

“Yum, it looks delicious.” I said and picked the pizza slice up and taking a bite from it.

"So are you ready for tomorrow?" Rosanne asked as she recieved her own pizza slice. I swallowed the bite I had in my mouth. Truth to be told, I didn't exactly feel ready but I was sure that this feeling would be gone tomorrow as fast as I could get on the waves and show people what I had to show them.

"I guess I'm as ready as I can become." I muttered and sighed. Rosanne patted my back lightly.

"Don't worry. I forgot to tell you that Jay wasn't the only one who stopped to look at you surf. Other people as well, I think you're already getting a bit famous and so is Maria." She gave me a reasurring smile, which did help me. Knowing that she had faith in me did help me. I really wanted to show what I had learned these past years with intense training.

"I'll definitely make sure that I pass the round tomorrow."

"That's the spirit!" Rosanne cheered happily and clapped her hands together. The rest of the night we continued to chat with Leilani before we made our way to our bed. I think I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. It wasn't often that I was that exhausted!
