Chapter 11 - Let The Training Begin

"I'm still not convinced." I said, mostly to myself as I looked into the bathroom mirror. I had gone back home to Rosanne's grandmother to get my board and my swimsuit. I had also met up with Rosanne and Maria on my way back. Their smiling expression refused to falter no matter how much I glared at them. There had to be limits on how much they could play matchmakers.

"But isn't this great? You'll get Jay to teach you! And come on, it's the Jay. Why aren't you happy? Didn't you also think that he was hot?" Rosanne exclaimed from our bedroom. I felt my cheeks burn, of course I thought he was hot but I was never letting Rosanne know that.

"Wouldn't you like to know." I muttered and threw my hair up in a somewhat messy bun. I looked in the mirror once more before I nodded satisfied with myself. I walked into the bedroom where both Rosanne and Maria sat on the beds, reading magazines.

"What are you guys going to do in the meantime?" I asked and plopped down beside Rosanne. It was still a good 15 minutes till Jay and I had agreed to meet up again on the beach. Rosanne put down her magazine and thought about for a while.

"I think we'll go and do some shopping, and after that I guess I'll call Trevor because Maria has some plans of her own." Rosanne smirked and looked at Maria who tried to hide her blush behind the magazine.

"We're only going to eat dinner! People can misunderstand if you say it like that!" Maria defended and tried to glare at Rosanne.

"Don't worry Maria, she's just kidding with you." I smiled before letting out a sigh.

"Why the long sigh? Something bothering you? Ah!" Maria knew it right away after asking.

"Jay?" Rosanne asked. I just nodded with another sigh. She smiled reasurringly at me.

"Don't worry. He's just helping you, maybe he just wants to be nice. Look on the bright side, this is your once in a lifetime chance to get back into the competition." She said and patted me on my back.

"There's something fishy about this. I'm not sure what but there's something. Anyways I think I'll take my leave now. Don't want to be late for my first lesson." I laughed at the last sentece, it seemed so weird. I had never had someone teach me surfing before. I just learned things by myself using videos and watching other surfers.

"Talk to you later. Oh, I might also come and watch you two being all lovey dovey." Rosanne said grinning like a mad man. I just shook my head in disapproval, she was really determined to get us together.

"Bye!" Maria yelled as I disappeared through the bedroom door. I slipped on my sandals and walked out. I couldn't help but wonder to why he would help me. I mean, we were still strangers. It's not like I knew him still... This gave me another chance to continue in the competition. There was no way I was giving up now. I would give it my all!

I was almost at the beach when I realized something crucial. My board! It was still at Leilani's house, I hade been so preoccupied with my thoughts that I had forgotten about it! I turned around and ran the whole way back. How could I be  so stupid? As I arrived I saw Rosanne and Maria look at me with bewildred looks. I smiled like a dork and pointed to my board. They looked to see what I was pointing at and burst out laughing from inside.

I grabbed it and started quickly started to jog the way back. I was going to be late if I didn't pick up my pace.
