Chapter 8 - Let Me Make You Smile

"Now...What to do?" I silently muttered to myself. I didn't exactly think that I would end up completely alone on the beach. Rosanne had already left to find her beloved Trevor. Maria's boyfriend Alonzo had travelled all the way from Spain to Hawaii just to surprise her. So basically she left too, leaving me to myself. It wasn't all that bad, I could surf or relax until Rosanne came back. She had promised to back after a couple of hours.

I sat on the beach and just stared off into the beautiful sunset. It was quite mesmerizing, I had never quite seen anything like it. A little peaceful sigh escaped my lips. How I wished that I could just stay here. This was a surfing paradise, so many places to explore. Everything here was just perfect.

"Have you seen my mommy?" A tiny little voice said behind me while poking my shoulders. I turned half-way around and came face to face with a little boy, probably not older than 5. Maybe even younger. His hair was short and blonde, his green eyes were big and teary.

"Have you lost your mother?" I asked and turned completely around to face him. He nodded and sniffled out a yes. A tear was starting to make its way out of his eye.

"Hey, I'll help you find her." I said, there was no way I would say no to this cute little child. He looked so lost and all alone but I was sure his mother couldn't be far away. I mean, who leaves their child on a beach and just leaves? That would be insane!

"Really?" He sobbed and looked at me with hopeful eyes. I gave him a warm smile and wiped away two tears that had started rolling down his slightly red cheeks.

"Of course." I said and raised myself up from the ground, dusting of sand from my shorts.

"Where was the last time you saw her?" The boy looked deep in thought for a moment. He then looked to left before he looked to his right.

"She said she was going to find my brother but she didn't come back. She went that way!" He answered and pointed a tiny finger towards left. That was towards the direction of the surfing competition or at least all the tents. We could easily find her there if luck was on our side.

"Then let's go." He giggled and finally smiled a big smile. He was quick to run over to my side and together we started to walk towards our destination.

"So, what's your name?" I asked after we had walked in silence for a short while.

"I'm Thomas. What's your name?" He still smiled his cute smile and it almost made me melt. He was so adorable, it was now I wished that I had some siblings as cute as him. I had none at all and sometimes it could be extremely boring. I wonder how it would have been if I had a little brother or a sister.

"Oh, I'm Abigail." I answered after being lost in my own thoughts.

"You're nice you know, Abigail." He said and gave me another one of his smiles. I gave him a smile back and ruffled his hair as he giggled. I suddenly noticed that we were starting to pass some off the tents.

"We're here. Let's see if we can spot your mother." I looked around in what seemed nearly deserted. Only a few people were here but they wer so young that they couldn't be his parents. He even said he had a brother and I guessed that it was an older brother. I'm not saying his mother has to be old but at least older than 20.

"I can't see her anywhere." Thomas sighed and his smile disappeared.

"What if she left me on purpose?" He continued and looked at me with sad eyes again. I bent down so I was on his level and looked him seriously into the eyes.
