For the rest of the day I sat in the chair, silently fuming about the decision of mayor Flack. This I thought, among other things, such as my plan to extract my backpack from upstairs, knowing there were essential items in it, like my bb armor, which would help me in case I had to go outside to run for some food, or anything else. In it was also my phone, which I could use to call the military for assistance. They were sure to help me.
As the day went on, I gathered my head, working the courage to get my backpack. Still hearing only one of the creatures at the door, I assumed it was probably safe, as I could easily handle one of them. Not wanting to risk catching the attention of more creatures, I decided to leave my AA-12, taking my .44 as a backup weapon in case there came to be too many of them, but until that moment came, I was going to use my electric sword.
I walked over to the escape hatch, and started to climb the metal bars up to the metal trapdoor. I carefully pushed it up, so as not to make a sound. The afternoon sun nearly blinded me, causing me to use my arm to shield my eyes. I squinted, looking around for any sign of the creatures. Seeing none, I pulled the rest of my body out of the hole, and into the open world. I crouched down, and sneaked over to my house's front porch, leaving the trapdoor open so I could do a hasty escape if needed.
I slowly walked to the porch, careful of each step I took, making sure not to make any noise. I got to the steps, walking up them, every part of my body tense. With every step I took I held my breath, hoping that I could make it in the house. I got to the sill where the door should have been, remembering that the creatures had knocked the door down to get my dad and I. I looked in and saw that the creature was still occupied with the door, thinking I was still in the basement. I walked over the fallen for quietly, and creeped up behind it, getting my sword ready. When close enough, I stabbed through its head. Due to not having the electric module turned on, when I pulled the blades from its head, the wounds bled at a high rate. The lifeless body fell to the ground with a thud.
"Oh shit..." I said quietly, before quietly dashing to the living room. My backpack sat against the leg of the table my father and I had used for our game of Stratego. I grabbed it and unzipped it, searching to see if everything was in its place, and I sighed in relief seeing that they were. The things that I cared most for were there, being my armor container and my phone. I put them back in my backpack, before turning around to walk out the door. I stopped immediately, seeing that out the door, was a horde of the creatures coming. They roared and snarled, all advancing to my house. To me.
I knew I didn't have time to get to the escape hatch, as they were too close. I sprinted to the stairs, grabbing two wooden frame chairs as I went by. I got to the top of the stairs, smashing the chairs into the walls, making them splinter on impact. I took the chair legs and the back rests of each chair. I quickly sharpened the chair legs to an acceptable point, and cut holes in the backboard for them to fit in. I jammed the dull ends into the holes i had cut, the sharp ends sticking up as spikes. I dashed to the stairs and nailed the backboards into the middle of the flight of stairs, facing towards the way up. I looked and saw that I had finished in the nick of time, as the creatures had just came into the house. I stood as far away as I could to be able to see the stairs, getting ready incase my trap had failed.
They got closer, so much so I could smell their rotten flesh, and hear their roars as they advanced towards me. My heart was pounding in my chest, knowing if the trap didn't work, I was surely dead. I watched with utter anticipation, my hand holding my sword, ready to fight if needed. The creatures stumbled up the stairs, not stopping at seeing the spikes. I held my breath as the first one reached the spikes. The spike went through its stomach, causing me to cringe at the sight. It didn't even flinch, however, but the spike stopped it from moving. It fell, and the spike went all the way through, coming out its back. I forced myself to stop from puking. I sat down, watching as one by one, the creatures piled up, not able to get past. I sighed in relief, wiping my brow.
I lifted my backpack and put it on my lap, before then searching through it again. I took out my phone, staring at it for a minute. I pressed the power button, and saw that it was dead. I groaned and got up, going to my room, and plugged it into my wall charger. I lied down on my bed, staring at the ceiling. I sat there, thinking, knowing that as soon as my phone was charged, I would call and see if anyone I knew was possibly still alive.
As I waited for it to charge to the point of use, I got a notebook and pencil from my backpack, having an idea in mind. I opened the notebook, and started to write.
