The moment I was born I knew two things about myself: I was only half human and that my entire reason for existing was to protect Jeannie. I didn't know who she was. I didn't even know why I was supposed to protect her, I only knew that protecting her was my reason.
"Bethany!"
I looked up from my phone as Mom called my name. I didn't really feel like talking to her. She never cared what I had to say so I decided a long time ago not to care what she says.
"Bethany, I wish you wouldn't wear that ugly hoodie, especially since we're going to meet my finance. Besides, it makes you look like you're a homeless person." Mom smiled.
"Mom, I wish you wouldn't wear that ugly shirt because it makes you look fat, but we don't always get what we want. So.." I shrugged looking smug because I know I won that time.
I look back down at my phone while inwardly laughing as she fussed over her shirt now. Dad's face was on the screen grinning from ear to ear. Guess I forgot to put it on silent.
"Bethany, don't aggravate your mother." He said all the while, trying to hold in his laughter.
"But Dad! You know I hate airports, and she's gonna get me raped, or kidnapped, or worse! I mean she hasn't even met the guy we're meeting!" I halfway whined to him playing along.
Yep, that's right. My mother met a man online and decided to marry him. She hasn't even met him in person. How wonderful is that? Also to make my life so much better, she decided to move us again, but this time we're moving across the country. Whoop-de-fricking-do.
"Now, now. I'm sure your mother has perfectly good reason for becoming desperate. After all, I did leave her." Dad smirks
Now I know what you're thinking: I have a very dysfunctional family, but no, just a crazy mother. My dad left my mom a few years ago because she's a crazy control freak, and he wanted to get her away from me, but because my mom is crazy, she had all this so called 'evidence' that my dad was doing drugs. Which, sadly enough, held up in court, and she got custody over me. She also got a restraining order for my dad. So now I can't see him in person until I turn 18. My mother literally ruined my life.
Again, I know what you're thinking, (what can I say I'm almost like a mind reader) how did the evidence hold up in court if it was fake? Well, here comes my confession, my father is an angel which kinda makes me a half-angel. There is no way for us to get drunk, high, or anything like that. We don't even bother with that because it doesn't work. So yeah, all my mother did with the whole drug thing was prove to me that she was on drugs. So yeah, just to recap, my mother is crazy.
I grinned at Dad's joke, "But seriously here, this is just plain insane. I mean who does this kind of thing?"
"Bethany Ramon Willows, you ever speak about me like that again-"
"You'll what? Huh? What could you possibly do to make my life any more miserable than it is?"
She laughs at my sudden outburst, "Honey, you have no idea what I'm capable of."
I looked back down at my phone ignoring her, "Dad, I better go. I love you."
"Love you too, Bethany."
Alrighty, now lets have a quick crash course in angels. First off, yes, I do have wings. They're the most amazing things ever. But more on that later. Secondly, no, I do not play a harp. Isn't that what some angels are said to play? I don't know. I can sing though. Sorta. I don't think there's anything else that needs to be classified yet. So, there you go.
"Bethany try to look like a normal person for the next few hours." Mom muttered.
"I will try if you quit acting like a demon." I smiled bitterly.
"If anyone knows about demons, it would be you and your father." Mom laughed.
Oops, kinda forget to mention that I'm half-Wrong angel. The Wrong angels worked for Satan for many many years. However when my dad found out that I was going to be born, he left Nothing for good so he could take care of me. My dad was the only one who really understood me.
I didn't have any time to answer her because a man and a girl who looked about my age walked up to us.
"Howard!" Mom cried out sweetly and threw herself in his arms.
Ugh, two-faced bitch.
"Hello dear, and this must be Bethany!"
The man, Howard, pulled Mom off himself, and came up to me.
"Now I don't expect to be your dad's replacement..."
I drowned him out, not really caring because I'd heard the new stepfather speach so many times I could probably say it in my sleep.
He seemed nice enough though so I just smiled and nodded like I was paying attention.
The girl looked at me from behind our new parents and sighed silently, "I'm Daire," she mouthed silently.
"Bethany."
Maybe it wouldn't be so bad here.
