"I'd say we did a pretty good job," I said, as I stepped back to admire the Christmas tree.

Barry sat down on the sofa. "Joe, you said it was movie night. Still up for it?"

Joe grabbed a beer and sat next to Barry. "You bet. Just don't go bailing on me this time."

"Wouldn't dream of it. Charlie, you want to join?"

"No thanks. I have some stuff to do." And I vanished in a flash of purple lightning.

.....

One indecisive hour later I clutched Barry's present to my chest. He was going to love it! Making my way to the checkout, I froze at the sight of a familiar figure. Barry!

He must have finished his film and came shopping. Not good. Glancing around to make sure nobody was paying attention (they were all too wrapped up with last-minute gift-buying) I used my speed and ducked behind a nearby shelf. I watched through the space between two loaves of bread until Barry was out of sight and briskly walked to the checkout. I quickly purchased my item, checking over my shoulder every few seconds.

"Thanks, bye!" I said and left the main area of the shop. Glancing back one more I saw Barry turning towards me. In one second flat I had turned away, dropped to the ground and did a commando roll behind the nearest pot plant.

This is not weird in the slightest, I told myself sternly. I am a perfectly normal teenage girl hiding behind this hydrangea. That may or may not be a hydrangea. (I know science, not plants. Leave me be!!)

"Charlie?" Oh please no!

"Heeeeyyy, Iris. I just thought this plant looked very, umm, interesting."

"And that has nothing to do with the fact that Barry is walking towards us?"

"Nothing in the slightest." I say straight away. Not missing a beat.

"Thought not. I'll distract him while you make your escape." She laughed and made her way over to my brother and her best friend.

"Thanks." And I hightailed it out of there at normal-person sprinted towards the exit, and ran the whole way home.

.....

Joe entered the living room brandishing a mug. " Grandma Esther's Eggnog. Light on the bourbon." He took a sip. "I always loved her definition of light."

"Well it's time for one tradition I do love, Charlie what will you be singing for us this year?" Iris says looking at me. Oh yeah, ever since i sang when I was 10 on Christmas, I has been ma a tradition for the last 51/2 years.

"I wrote this one so let me get my guitar." and I ran up the stairs to grab my favorite instrument. Once I had it, I ran back down to my family.

"Okay this is called 'Silver Nights'..." And I started, seriously unaware of the three phones secretly vidioing it all.

  (Baby, baby) [2x]

You're the best present ever
Life's a snowglobe when we're together
Like a Norman Rockwell picture
Baby, baby
It's crazy how we're

Walking around this frozen town
I'm wrapped up like a bow
In your arms, shooting stars
We're bouncing off the snowflakes
Falling down and decorating all the tangled lights
There's nothing like these silver nights with you

(Baby, baby)

Streets are crowded, stores are busy
Sipping cocoa, I'm just wishing
There'll be a mistletoe so you might kiss me
