"I missed you guys so much!" Grace, Christian's mother squeaked as she opened the front door to her absolutely breathtaking mansion.
Before I could reply, I was enveloped in a warm, inviting hug from Grace and when we pulled away I caught a glimpse of Carrick, her husband, standing next to her.
"How wonderful you two could join us for dinner," Carrick beamed, clasping his hands together and looking between both me and my husband.
"We're just glad we could get a sitter for Teddy," Christian chuckled.
"I miss that little squirt!" Grace smiled, as if she were trying to remember a good memory shared with her grandson.
"Well come on in," Carrick replied, gesturing towards the foyer.
As I walked in, I took in the beautiful decor of the magnificent house. Although I had been here numerous times before, I couldn't get over how absolutely beautiful Carrick and Grace's home was.
A delicious smell filled my nostrils as I strolled to the kitchen and plopped down on a stool by the counter beside Christian and Carrick.
"Dinner should be ready in a few," Grace replied, pulling a dish out of the oven and setting it on the counter to cool.
"Sounds good to me," I responded, intertwining my fingers with Christian's and shooting Grace a small smile.
"So, I'm dying to know how Phoebe is doing!" Grace said, an enthusiastic smile creeping to her face.
"Me too," Carrick added, furrowing his eyebrows and waiting for a response.
"I...I...We-" I attempted to reply, before my throat started to close up and Christian chimed in.
"We lost the baby." Christian answered sternly.
At the sound of his words, Grace dropped her glass wine glass she was carrying and sent the expensive tableware flying to the ground in pieces.
"Oh gosh," I panicked, "Let me help you with that, Grace."
She looked up at me with a face that was etched with what could only be concern.
"Sweetheart, I am so sorry." Grace said, and I could tell she truly meant it.
"Thank you," I responded, before attempting to collect the glass off the ground and ending up failing by cutting myself severely.
Blood was rushing down my hands and tears started to well in my eyes, everything was hitting me so hard at that moment.
A gentle hand laid was placed on my lower back, and before I knew it I was being hoisted off the ground, onto my feet and pulled into the bathroom by Christian.
"I'm sorry, baby," Christian said, reaching over to grab the first aid kit.
I looked down at Christian pulling out a wet cloth and oh so gently dabbing my cuts.
"It's not your fault, it's mine," I replied, and with that, I buried my face into his shoulder before choked sobs ripped from my lips and my tears were like a never-ending waterfall.
I pulled myself away after a few minutes, finding my hand to be completely bandaged up.
Gently pulling my hand towards him, Christian kissed every one of my fingertips.
"I love everything about you, Ana, flaws and all. You make me want to be a better man everyday. You've changed me for the better. There is nobody in this world that I hate to see sad more than you, baby. To see you like this breaks my heart, and to know I can't do anything about it makes me feel even more helpless. I love you more than anything in the world, my love."
A faint smile traced my lips before I closed the distance between us and placed a soft kiss on his lips.
"You're my everything. My happiness depends on you. Never feel helpless, Christian, because to me you are the world." I whispered, bringing my thumb up to trace his lower lip.
When our gaze met, Christian's lips quirked up in a sly smirk and he pulled my head towards his chest, so I could lay there for a moment.
There truly was no better feeling than being wrapped in his arms, he was home to me.
After a few moments, I checked my reflection, deciding I looked rather decent, and made my way back to the kitchen.
Realizing Grace and Carrick weren't there,
Christian and I made our way to the dining table to find delicious food spread out across the table with Grace and Carrick sitting across two seats with placemats and tableware."Let's feast!" Carrick chuckled, digging into the mashed potatoes.
Dinner went by fairly quickly. Dinner conversations mostly revolved around sports and teddy. After a long while of eating and talking, Christian and I decided that it was a bit too late to stay here and said our goodbyes.
As we sat in the car listening to soft music, I quickly found Christian's hand laying on the console and laced our fingers together;our hands fit together perfectly.
"Thank you for tonight, baby," I whispered, looking over at Christian who had his gaze fixed on the road and the wheel.
"No, thank you for tonight, Ana." He replied with a mischievous grin on his face.
"What?" I questioned.
"Later, I mean," Was his abrupt reply, before he kissed my hand and looked over at me with amusement clearly dancing in his eyes.
"I think we need a little us time, if you know what I mean." Christian added, when he caught sight of face etched with confusion.
"Whatever you say, Mr. Grey,"
Damn, this man was absolutely utterly irresistible.
