Amber pushed the heavy glass door open and stepped in. The cafe was crowded with school kids of different ages who had come for their lunch break. Some were sitting at the tables and talking to their friends while some were lining up to place their order.
Amber was indeed surprised at how well the cafe was doing on its very first day but again it was a small country and things could spread really fast here. To add it was located opposite a shopping centre and she was sure many people didn't like the food and service at Central Cafe .
"Amber this way." Mike whispered from behind her.
Amber turned around clearly startled but calmed down when she saw those familiar green eyes. Mike gestured for her to follow him before leading her up some old wooden steps at the far end of the room. When they reached the top he turned right and led her down a corridor.
Amber's heals clicked softly on the cold stone as she hurried to keep up with Mike. The dim light that the few candles provided caused shadows to appear on the walls. The air smelt musty and it looked like sunlight hasn't touched the walls for years.
A few pictures hung proudly on the grey wall but other than that there seemed to be no sign of any kind of furniture or articles. The four widows were almost touching the ceiling and had now become a home to the spiders and bee's. There were a few doors and Amber noticed that they each had a different flower or animal beautifully engraved in it.
Mike suddenly stopped at the third last door that had a beautiful periwinkle engraved in it. A delicious aroma of chicken soup reached Amber's nose and she didn't have to ask Mike what was behind the door.
"Go in here and ask one of the waitress's to show you to the counter downstairs. I've already told given the list of the things you have to do." Mike smiled.
"Thank you so much and this place is indeed beautiful. I mean it's a bit creepy but yes it's beautiful." Amber smiled back.
"This place used to belong to one of my aunts but she gave it to me a few days back. She has no children and her husband died a few years back." Mike explained.
"She must feel really lonely. Trust me I know that feeling when you loose someone and your all by yourself. It's hard." Amber turned her graze to the floor and whispered.
"Yeah but on the bright side she got us.She treats us like her own little children and she has a lot of visitors" Mike assured her.
Amber gave him a smile before pushing the door open and stepping in. The kitchen was a large room that was painted in white with two windows on opposite walls. There was a lot of shouting and banging as the chefs prepared the orders while the waitress removed the plates and took the orders downstairs while trying not to bang into each other.
Amber looked around for someone to ask but everyone seemed busy so she sat down on a dirty plastic chair at the end of the room. After about five minutes one of the waitresses noticed her and started towards her with a notepad and pen. She had a smile on her face that reminded Amber of her best friend.
"You must be Amber Shaw. I'm Juliana Abbot but you can call me Jul.Mike said you would come. He told me that you will be working at the counter today. If you have any questions you can ask anyone. We're all friendly so don't feel shy or anything." Jasmine ticked the box in her notepad that had Amber's name.
Jasmine was a short girl with curly locks of black hair and caramel brown eyes who looked to be in her early thirties. She wore black jeans and a blue blouse under a apron that had cafe RSC in large block letters. There was a tattoo of a red dragon on her right hand and one small flower chain on her left wrist.
