Katie

I step out of my dad's pickup and on to the school's sidewalk. A couple of cars up, I see Tasha and Layla getting out of Lay's mom's BMW. Layla's mom worked as a lawyer at the Louisville Law Firm, and she was one of the best around. Layla's family had money to burn.

A lot of the kids who attended the school had money-a lot of money- including my family. Even though my parents weren't lawyers, doctors or businessmen, they owned one of the most successful racing and eventing stables in all of Kentucky. If it wasn't for Madeline Scott's family's racing stable, then we would be number one.

I hate Madeline Scott. I've hated Madeline since the third grade when I took part in my first ever show-a beginner hunter jumper and I mean beginner- and she beat me. The worst thing about her is that she rides at my family's stable, because her stable is just strictly racing. She even made sure that she hired her own coach to teach her. Oh no. Madeline Freaking Scott can not use the same coach as the rest of the world.

What makes me hate her even more is the fact that ever since Sophomore year, her and Carter Stevans' have been Trinity Catholic High's golden couple. Gross. The rest of the female population at Trinity either thought they were the cutest couple to ever grace the earth or they were seriously jealous. I fell into the former. Jealous, jealous, jealous. It couldn't really be my fault he was so freaking hot.

Madeline was the luckiest girl in the world. She has it all. Friends, popularity, a boyfriend and she's the future cheer captain. She has the life I've always wanted. The perfect life.

"Hey Katie!" Tasha smiles at me, waving. I grin walking quickly towards them.

"Katie, wait!" Avery says behind me.

"I'll see you at lunch!" I call to her, giving her a little wave. The beautiful blonde shakes her head in disbelief, like she can't actually believe I would ditch her for my friends. Um, I'd choose my friends any day over my snooty cousin. Not to be mean or anything.

It's just the way I feel.

I fall into step next to my two best friends, giving them both a quick smile. "Hey girls."

"Hey Kate." They both say in unison as we link arms. These girls make me feel like I'm home. We've been friends for so long that it's impossible to imagine life without them. We're like sisters.

"I hope we get the same homeroom this year." I say, looking at Layla, who's currently standing in the middle of Natasha and I, she's the tallest out of the three of us, which promotes her to middle material. She's 5.8, while Tash's 5.6 and I'm the smallest at 5.2. I always feel really tiny next to them. One thing I've noticed about my cousin is that we're the exact same height which is pretty cool. We can never be jealous of each other that one of us is taller. Not that we would ever be...jealous. Why should I be jealous of her?

"Yeah! Last year was miserable. The only period we had together all three of us was gym. As much as I like gym, ew." Natasha says rolling her eyes.
