Rising Sun : Chapter 5

Edward, if you're listening there's something weird going on. Have you guys smelled what I just smelled?

Silence. Honestly, I don't know why I was expecting a reply but I was slightly freaking out. People don't think logically when they're worried.

I am still sitting in class with Zara to my right and everyone has tensed. You could hear a pin drop. These humans are not just intimidated by Zachariah, they are terrified. When he walked in, his scent him me in the face like a hybrid going 100 mph. And yes, I said a hybrid, I'm trying to go green here ! I don't know how I didn't smell him earlier in the hallway. It must have been because all of the humans were swarming the halls then.

Okay, sorry Ed, I just realized that you can't respond but I thought you would like to know that I am freaking out ! I've never smelled anything like this ! Whatever this Zach character is, he's not human. Speaking of which, neither is Zara... 

*Knock Knock*

I looked up immediately to see Edward gently opening the classroom door.

"Hello, I'm here to talk to Maeve. I apologize for interrupting but this important." He said to my teacher while giving him a smile that would've made anyone's heart stop beating, even a straight man.

"Oh, um, yes, of course, go ahead." He stuttered out.

I quickly grabbed my backpack and slid past Zach being careful not to touch him. I looked at Edward and I noticed him take in a hidden sniff of the air before tensing up. To everyone else he looked calm and relaxed as I walked towards him but I saw it. I saw it in his eyes, the confusion and fear of the unknown that is currently raging through my body.

I shot the door behind me and looked back through the small side window in the door to look into the classroom. There was Zach, looking straight at me with a knowing smirk on his face. I immediately looked away and to Zara who looked totally peeved and was glaring at Zach.

I hurriedly walked away. In 10 minutes, most of us were assembled in the gym which was currently empty.

"You guys, I don't think you understand what we are trying to explain to you ! Whatever they are, they are not human, they are not vampires, and they are not werewolves !" Edward practically yelled.

They were talking this all as a joke and we were both at the point of exploding.

"All right, calm down. Just explain to us what they smell like while Jacob gets here." Jasper tried to reason.

"Its sweet almost sickening but sour at the same time. They just reek of power. I, I just don't know !" Edward said but it only seemed to frustrate him more. Maybe I could help...?

"Actually, I don't hate it. Its nice. Its like a sour patch candy. Sour at first but then sweet. So good you can't get enough of it. If I had to tell you what it smelled like to me, I would say magic. Emmett if you keep laughing, so help me I will feed you to my pet dragon, Hiccup !" I finished.

Sadly, that only made him and the rest of them apart from Edward laugh at me. Edward had one of those "Oh my goodness ! You are so right !" looks on his face.

Emmett was laughing hard I wanted to punch him in his family jewels! I love him but man ! He can get under my skin.

"Hahaha. She... dragon...Hiccup! Hehehe!" Emmett tried to speak.

Real mature Em, real mature. Just then, Jacob came storming into the gym looking as though he was about to shift. Nessie ran up to him and threw her arms around him trying to calm him down. We were remained silent while we wondered what got him so angry.

Edward and Jacob made eye contact, which meant they were communicating. I was so confused as I watched Edward's reactions intently. This is how they went: frustrated, annoyed, pride, annoyed, surprised, shock, disbelief, more disbelief, and then he just burst out laughing. Jacob wasn't shaking anymore but he was definitely still angry.

I. Was. Confused. But so was everyone else. If it was possible tears would have been streaming down Edward's  face.

"AHAHAHA! Oh! This is just too precious. All right, I'll tell you guys before you tear me apart. You guys are going to love this. Jakey here was walking down the hallway to meet us here when he bumped into that Zach guy and a couple of his friends. They got into a bit of an argument. Words were exchanged and Jacob shoved Zach. Zach told him that he would regret shoving him and called him a dog. He said 'If you are going to act like such an animal all the time, you might as well sound like one" and before he knew what was happening... BAM! A yellow lightening bolt flew from the palm of his hand and slammed into Jake. Oh and here comes the best part, the force of it sent him flying a hundred feet. When Jake got up to yell at him and retaliate, he couldn't !" Edward didn't finish because he was laughing again. Jacob was starting to shake again.

We were all dumbfounded. How could Edward be laughing when some dude just pulled some Harry Potter shit ! But that all went to crap when Jacob tried to tell Edward to shut up. Instead of words, all that came out was a bark. But not just any bark, it was like the ones you would hear from one of those teeny tiny dogs that almost look like rats.

Me and Emmett looked at each other and started falling all over each other as we laughed as hard as we could. Zach cast a spell on Jake that made him sound like a tiny dog at all times ! The others chuckled but tried not to. Trying to spare Jake. Poor guy... He never stood a chance.

However, I sobered up quickly.

"Uhh... Are you trying to say that these people, they, that they're..." I started.

"Wizards? More or less. We like to be called Dihmuir but you can call it whatever you like." A voice said from the other side of the dark gym.

His voice sent chills down my back. I looked and easily spotted him even though there were around seven of them. It's not hard to see who the leader is, Zach. I quickly got over my fear. I squared my shoulders and walked up to him. His followers all took a step to try and defend him but with the raise of his hand they all froze. I stopped a foot away from him.

"Hello Zach. So let's skip all of the bullshit. We know what you are, you know what Jake is, and I can only guess that you know what we are. What we really need to talk about is what you are doing here. Why are you here and what are your intentions?" I said looking directly into his eyes.

"Actually, we should be asking you that. We were here before you. And now you may know what we are called but you know nothing about what we do or what we are capable of. The same goes for what we know about you guys. I can say that we are not looking to start a war but more of a friendship. There's obviously a little distrust but we would like to try and work on it."

 I looked back at my closest friends and they all looked doubtful but they nodded anyway. I offered him my hand and he took it in his firm grip. As our hands made contact, something odd happened. A white light, the purest light I could have ever imagined burst from the center of our hands. A potent force that sent us flying into each other rather than apart. Before we could blink, the light vanished. We did not look away from each other as Zach held me in his arms thinking that he was supporting me. We were so wrapped in each other's eyes that we had barely noticed that the force of that light had sent everyone else 200 feet away from where we stood.

When I noticed how intimate we looked, I pulled myself out his arms and walked away from him. Zach and the rest of the Dihmuir looked absolutely shocked. In a fraction of a second the Cullens were standing by my side.They too looked like they wanted to know what was happening but were at a loss for words like me.

Zach and I made eye contact once again.

The last thing I heard before the Dihmuir all disappeared was Zach whisper under his breath.

"It can't be..."
