My silver bow glistened in the pale light of the moon. The arrow that was loaded in my bow had a faint glow to it, that was due to the power that I had. I was the only person in the Monster Preservation and Control Agency, or MPCA, that could see and manipulate auras. My own aura was about to pierce the monster that had been on a five day rampage throughout the city. It was the responsible for at least three murders this week, he was deemed to by beyond containing so it was my job to take care of the it. All I am able to see of the monster is a shadow and an aura black as the asphalt of the street outside the alley. The glowing red eyes showed a feeling of rage, it was going to kill me
I let go of the arrow and sent it flying into the the monster's head. It wailed in pain as I watched the aqua glow of the arrow send cracks throughout the aura of the monster. I moved quickly to the opening of the alley to prevent it from escaping. Out of the shadow one at least twice as large emerged. I drew my dagger and went in for an attack. My bow became like a shield as the monster scratched at me. I had only made it mad. I thought about how scared I would be if I could feel fear at that moment. The monster licked its lips that were covered in the blood of its latest victim. I was going to be next if I didn't kill it.
I reached for another arrow and load it as I tried to get to a good spot for an attack. I let the arrow go knowing that this would only make the monster angrier. I quickly moved in for the kill with the small dagger that I had. I had hit its heart. It wailed in pain again and started to turn to dust before my eyes. Its blood poured on me from the wound that I gave it. it made one last futile attempt to kill me, but it was too late for the monster. It turned to dust as the claws made contact with my body. I picked up my dagger from the pile of dust on the ground that had formed where the monster used to stand. I heard footsteps behind me. I placed my dagger back in its case and loaded another arrow in my bow. I pulled it back, I knew who it was. I turned to face the other person as I drew the arrow back so I was ready to shoot. The girl at the other end of the alley tossed a strand of her perfectly curled, blonde hair over her shoulder. Her blue eyes locked with mine as she moved just a little closer, pushing my patience.
"What makes you think that shooting me with your toy would be a good idea?" she asked.
"You are nothing but a menace," I said letting go of the arrow slowly. She dodged the arrow effortlessly and shot me a dirty look.
"Am I one of your targets?" she asked.
"No, but you might as well be. With someone like you around who needs to take care of monsters?" I asked.
"Well then, I guess that you forgot who my mother is then," she said.
"No, I know exactly who your mother is and why she lets you out of the bakery is beyond me, but I digress. Tell me what you want," I said not lowering my guard for a second.
"I just wanted to take a trip down memory lane with you about a fairly recent assignment that we were sent on," she said.
"Carrie, get to the point before I decide to leave," I said.
"Come on, don't you want to remember the shape-shifter assignment?" Carrie asked.
"Not really, especially since you were the cause of the problem," I said walking toward the opening of the alley.
"Wait!" she yelled, "Mother told me to tell you that she wants to see you."
"Tell her that I'm busy," I said.
"No, she wants you right now," Carrie said.
"Fine, but I want you to give me my sword back that you stole," I said.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," she said innocently.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about," I said leaving the alley. The cool air of the night felt good after the fight. The quiet of the city at night was peaceful, I knew that no one would bother me or report me. The MPCA was pretty well known around Shadowpond City. Shadowpond City was known for the demons and monsters that roamed the streets, the hunters were killed a long time ago. These were people that were able to see the monsters' true image. They were responsible for protecting the people all over the world, but thirty years ago a tragedy killed all of them. Out of that the MPCA and Department of Demon Expulsion, DDE, emerged to protect the city from the two things that threatened to destroy the humans. Other than the attacks the city was quiet.
