I blew my red curls out of my face with a breath of exasperation as I slid the seemingly millionth empty tray through the window to the dish washer in the large kitchen. I turned away wiping my hands on my dark emerald green apron as I glanced around the room seeing all of the many people sitting in booths chattering away as they ate. The room illuminated by the dimmed lighting.
I give a glance at the Coca Cola clock on the far dark wood-paneled wall, five minutes till break, hang in there Lace, I told myself. Sighing in the relief of the lull in activity for the moment, been going from table to table for the last six hours constantly and there was nothing I would like more than to go curl up at home in my queen bed with a book.
"Lacey, dear, I need you at table six pronto." The rough feminine voice of my boss cuts through the thoughts of relaxation, I nodded,
"On it, Gina." I merely replied with a quick feigned smile.
One last table.
Then I can go home.
"As long as you're on the menu, I think I will be in love with this restraunt." The familiar voice of my best friend comes from behind me, making me spin around with a grin and a roll of my crystal blue eyes.
"Cute, Matthew. Almost reacted to that one." I quipped dryly, teasingly, before grabbing the tray of dirty dishes, holding it on one arm as I grab the glasses that wouldn't fit on to it. He follows the statement with a chuckle as he walks beside me knowing well not to ask if I needed help.
"Matt, Hun, make yourself a useful boy and grab me that knife." My boss said with a kind smile holding out her dark, slightly aged hand. He obliges with his own charming grin. Matthew and me practically grew up here, Gina was a second mom to both of us and I would never forget it. I was given a job as soon as I needed it, and for that, I was forever grateful.
Matthew's attention turned back to me as I slid yet another full try's through the kitchen window, "You up for the lake tomorrow? There's a party going on down there tomorrow night."
I thought a second, there were always Saturday night parties down at the lake, most involved drugs and booze, none that I particularly used to have fun, except a beer now and then. But with the sudden disappearances of girls locally, I couldn't shake a nervous feeling.
"A party? When I could watch Netflix instead?" I asked with a light laugh. It was his turn to roll his eyes,
"Come on, it'll be fun." He paused and then as if a sudden realization hit, he raised his eyebrows, "Unless your scared crazy psycho has picked you next?" Uh, yeah, crazy psycho out for red heads. Have you seen the color of my hair?
I shook my head with a snort ignoring my thoughts, "Whatever, count me in then."
A smiled edged onto his lips, his green eyes sparkling, "Great, I'll pick you up around eight thirty. Feel free to take a shower between now and then." He replied scrunching up his nose as he backs away. I gasp as if hurt before laughing and taking my towel out of my apron and throwing it at him,
"Get outta here." I replied shaking my head as I laugh.
((It's really really short, but this is just the beginning, they will get longer if you stick with me XD))
