‘IF YOU DON’T LIVE IN THE NOW, YOU’LL NEVER LIVE AT ALL’ IS WHAT MY DAD says. He says a lot of things, but I appreciate the concept. Life is what you make of it, and if mine was made up of supernaturals and demons out for my hide, then sure, my life seems pretty good right now, with my friends, family and lover on my side. Well, he wasn’t my lover yet, but I can see a long future ahead of us that seemed to include him at all times. Red was busy busting demon ass on her side of the world, jumping in and out of the Shadow Realm at every turn. She was ‘only following orders’, she’d say. I think she took what Miss said too literally, but if it kept her and Miss happy then sure, why not let her have her fun for now. Crystal eventually came out and told us she can talk to ghosts and we all believed her. Claire took some convincing, though. She was the science geek. When she told us, I explained everything to her, what she was and what else she could do. Then we all told each other what we were like some ‘help, I’m an addict’ AA group. Louise took it in her stride what she was and thought of going Goth on us at one point. Claire nearly beat the shit out of me because of my powers, saying I was taking it too far, which only proved her own when I told her and she punched a big hole in the brick wall when I dodged, not even scratching her skin.
So everything was out in the open and we all decided to live with our ‘gifts’, as we liked to call it. Not powers, but gifts from God (the Creator). That I never told them about and could never, for fear of being smitten with lightening and cast down to the Shade Vale to be torn apart by whatever I assumed was there.
After talking with Miss for a while, Red managed to get clearance and start to teach the gang how to use their powers. Louise didn’t have much to learn about, so she just sat back and watched and wrote everything down. No one see the harm in it. Well, we didn’t see the harm in it back then.
