Prologue
She leaned into me, smiling into the setting sun and as I held her close, she whispered into my ear. "I love you." I almost didn't hear her over the waves, splashing against the white sand on the beach but as I was about to reply to her, my stare caught something which made me close my mouth shut.
Actually, not something, someone. The figure rose up from the waves like a statue, the water drops glistening in the sun, which was framing the person, making them seem radiant and angelic and without knowing it, my heart stopped. I drew my breath in, figuring I was screwed. In that moment I knew I didn't love her. How could I? How could I love her when she could never be him?
My eyes glazed over, with the tears ready to spill as I looked at her. I knew. I knew I had to leave her or I would never be truly happy. I smiled the saddest smile and answered. "Love ya too, babe."
And she believed me. She believed my fake profession on the evening before our wedding, as I fell in love with a man that walked out of the sea and into my life.
