Chapter 9
MARK'S POV
The skies were suddenly getting darker, until there wasn't even a patch of blue left. The sea darkened due to the loss of the sun, getting almost black and much creepier. I hid behind Jon, holding onto his arm, peeking over his broad shoulders.
"Jon, what is going on?" I asked him, expecting a completely normal answer like 'we hit an iceberg' or 'we just ran out of gas'.
"Marauders." He replied, making me feel anxious.
What the hell are these marauders? Are they like supernatural pirates or something? That would be totaly cool if they were, just not on this ship. Not while Danny was trying to tell me something about himself. Not while I just got Jon back. Not now. Not here. Oh gods, why do you hate me?
Jon turned around, grasping my shoulders tightly, almost making me wince under the pressure he was putting on me. "Marcus, if I ask you to do something, would you do it, no questions asked?"
I squirmed under his watchful eye but nodded anyway, wanting him to get it over with already.
"Good." He sighed, letting go of me and looking over his shoulder. "Now, I want you to get off this ship any way you can and never turn back. Do you understand, Marcus?"
My eyes got wider and I started to yell at him, but Danny's hand flew over my mouth before I could get one word out of me. "He understands."
I gave Danny the nastiest look I could muster up and he just shrugged his shoulders as Jon leaned over and kissed my forehead. "Please, don't be upset. I shall try to come get you, but the Marauders are after the humans and I can't have them get to you. You know that..."
He looked over his shoulder one more time, then vanished completely. If Danny hadn't been holding me back, I would have run after him. However, since he was there, I just slumped against his grasp, my body refusing to work properly.
"He left." I whispered, still not completely grasping the whole situation.
"Come on, Mark, we have to move." Danny spoke, tugging me behind him.
"He left, Danny." I said once more, still not moving.
"I know buddy, but he's trying to save you. Now come on, don't let him fight in vain and let those fuckers capture you. We have to go now." He tugged me once more, my feet now moving automatically.
"We need to get to the rescue boat or we'll never make it alive." He whispered to himself, probably hoping I wouldn't hear him.
I still couldn't understand how he could have just abandoned us. Abandoned me. We could have escaped together. There was no need for heroics from the big bad Prince of the Seas, why couldn't he just pretend to be a tourist for once? Now he got himself into a mess and I don't even know if he will get himself out of it alive.
"Hey, Mark." Whispered Danny, making me look up at him.
"Hmm?" I mumbled, trying to be as quiet as possible, since the cries and the yelling were getting closer and closer by the second.
"There is no life boat, meaning, we'll have to swim. The problem is, the water is probably really cold, because of the sudden weather change and we could die. And we could not die as well. There's really no telling with these things." "You certainly know how to charm a guy, don't you, Danny?"
He scratched himself behind his ear, his cheeks lightly colouring as he mumbled something incoherent. Then, he gazed over the horizon, looking for a good spot for us to swim to, so the supernatural underwater pirates couldn't find us. "I found something, just jump in the water and I'll lead us to safety, okay?"
