My arm throbbed when I woke up. I rolled onto my back, triggering a stab of pain from my burned shoulder. I rubbed my arm and opened my eyes.
The room and everything in it was pink. I lay in a queen-sized four-poster bed with uber fluffly pillows. I sat up and the pillow under me inflated. The comforter was almost as thick as the pillows, and the sheets were the softest I'd ever felt. There were night stands and lamps on both sides of the bed. An armoire sat on my right. Off to the left a circular table sat on a raised platform. There was food on the table, and four chairs around it. My stomach grumbled.
I slithered out of the bed, which was also on a platform, to the table and plopped down to eat. I vaguely wondered what time it was. THe room was round, though it was hard to tell the actual shape because of all the pink. There were two doors opposite each other, one behind the table and the other next to the armoire. A set of double doors sat across from the bed.
I decided to check the door next to me. I was always one to explore every nook and crannie of video game dungeons. It wasn't locked, and opened without a sound. I felt around for the light switch, hoping the room wasn't pink.
I stood in the doorway, stunned. The room was a huge sea-colored bathroom. It looked more like a spa than a bathroom. The bath looked big enough for a bear. A separate shower was to the right, close to six feet cubed. A paper screne shielded the left side of the room. I wondered what could be in the opposite room.
This room was pink also. It was about the same size as the bathroom and had rows and rows of shelves and bars to hang clothes on. It was a closet, the biggest walk-in closet I had ever seen.
So this giant room had a private bathroom and a walk-in closet. That meant the double doors were the exit, unless I was in some sort of trick room. I walked up to the doors and threw them wide open.
I was greeted by a sitting room, though with much more subdued colors. The floor was in layers with a big cushiony chair at the highest point and the other couches and seats facing it. A curved path led to another door on the right wall, so I went in that direction.
The main door led to a grand hall and staircase. Red carpet lined the floor and a dark wood made the banister and columns. I walked to the balcony edge, marveling at the beauty. A huge chandelier hung above the staircase. It felt like a castle.
Wait a minute, it had to be a castle. That's why my room had so much attached to it! Why in the world was I in a castle? I didn't even know there were castles in Utah. Did that mean I wasn't in Utah anymore?
"Guinevere, so glad to see you awake!"
I turned to find Kat Swinton striding toward me with her arms held wide open as though expecting a hug. I backed away from her. Was this lady crazy? She threatened me, stabbed me, and now she's coming to me with open arms?
"Don't be afraid, love," she said. "You're safe here. No one knows about this place, unless you're invited."
Thousands of questions popped into my head. Kat came level to me and grabbed my hand. I tried to pull away but once again she wouldn't let me go. I was going to have a permanant bruise on my wrists if this kept up.
"Come, let's sit and chat, shall we?"
She led me to a flat little seat with cushions on it. I don't remember what it's called. She sat down and pulled me down with her. I gave up on trying to get away. For now.
"Oh, this is so exciting. It's so wonderful to have you here!"
Good, a starting point. "Why? What's so special about me?" I asked.
