"Beep! Beep! Beep!" Earth's eyes shot open. He realized that it was 7:24am. He slept in twenty minutes. Now he had six minutes to take a shower, get dressed, and eat breakfast before the bus came. Great. Just what he needed after a long night of practice.
When Earth made it on the varsity summer football team, he had no idea that practices would go until ten every other night. Thankfully,he had today and Thursday off from practice. Earth rushed to his bathroom. His parents were gone to work already, so he couldn't expect a ride to school. If he missed the bus, he was going to have to walk.
He started to turn the water on in his shower, when his cat, Levy, sat in the doorway of the shower meowing. Great. He forgot to feed him. Levy was a black tuxedo cat, who loved to eat the fish out of the neighbor's pond. This was not going to be his day.
After feeding Levy without his glasses on, he stepped back in the shower. The water was just right. As he hurriedly shampooed his scalp, he thought about what Luna had told him about. Lately, she had become more attractive. Was she styling her hair differently? Ah, gosh, why had she suddenly always crept in his thoughts?
As Earth was drying himself, he got the perfect idea. Since he didn't have practice today, after dinner he would see if she wanted to do something. Maybe that would make up for saying no to her yesterday.
He wailed as he saw the bus roll on down the road. As he yanked up his pants on put on his belt, he shuffled his books together. Why didn't he pack his book bag the night before? After putting on his glasses and wrestling a pea green shirt over his head, he scrambled out the door.
"Bye, Levy! Don't get into too much trouble!" shouted Earth as he slammed the door and locked the door rapidly. He looked at his watch. It was 7:33. He had twenty minutes to get to school, but he lived fourty minutes away if he walked. He ran to their garden shed, and pulled out his bike. It would be faster.
Once Earth got to school, he chained up his bike, and ran inside. He threw his stuff in his locker, and brought his Science textbook with him. He couldn't be late. As he ran for the library, he saw Luna talking with her friends as they sauntered down the hallway, towards the library. He overheard them giggling and pointing at him, as he walked through the door, trying to act like he was calmly walking the entire way.
Luna was so glad that Earth had not been close enough to hear the earlier part of her friend's conversation. She told them about her plan, and how she would make Earth ask her to prom. Her friends started laughing, and teasing her about how obsessive she was over him. When he walked past her, Miranda gave her a little shove, just hard enough that she bumped into Earth.
"Sorry!" she instantly replied, hoping she didn't make him mad.
"Oh, I'm fine." he said, trying to play it cool. He would ask her later.
