Pluto didn't want to go to school. After Eris had told her what she had done, she panicked.
"Gosh P, it was for your own good! Both of you were to shy to ask each other anyway! I did you a favor!" Pluto wasn't so sure. What if Mars said no? She needed to know, and now! It was almost time for them to leave. Worst part is, she had texted Mars all last night, and he didn't even mention it.
Did that just mean he wasn't interested? Today would be awkward... Pluto sighed and stepped out of the door; going to face the world today. The crisp, morning air hit her face.
Ah, Wednesday. Miranda's least favorite day. She groaned as she awoke to her alarm clock. Her hair was a mess. As she hurriedly brushed her hair, she dressed and got ready for school. She put her laptop into her backpack, along with her textbooks. Don't forget those pencils. Do you have a red pen? Check. Ugh, what am I forgetting? She spied her notebook at the other end of her room. She had eaten breakfast and was ready to leave. She couldn't forget that today.
Her notebook happened to be on a shelf of moth caterpillars, which was next to the big enclosure. She glanced over. Her silver queen lay face up on the bottom. The luna moth died. She immediately felt tears burst from her eyes. Her face drew into a hopeless, sad expression. There were no eggs. Miranda's normally cheery heart sank deeper into its pit of sadness that had been hollowed in her chest. She probably would never, ever, find another luna moth.
If she didn't leave now, she would be late for school. At this point she didn't care if she was late. She hesitantly drew away from the cage as if she was resisting glue holding her to the spot. A sour taste formed in her mouth. No, it was more melancholy. Her arm's scar from the fall began to hurt, as if the memory could cause pain.
She started the engine of her gray Parallex. She slid down into the alley, got into 7th Avenue, and headed towards school. Tears still rolled down her cheeks, her eyes red from crying.
As class started, Miranda trudged in about five minutes late. This was unusual, so Ms. Sun felt it necessary to ask why.
"Miranda, can you come in my office?"Miranda lifted her head slightly and let out an unidentifiable sound. She slowly followed Ms. Sun. Unlike most times someone was late, she would have worn a scowl. This time, Neptune noticed, she had a more caring expression. She motioned Miranda in and shut the door behind them.
"Honey, what's the matter?" Ms. Sun half cooed at Miranda. The girl began to burst into tears. She began to blubber. Words wouldn't come out clearly.
"I've seen some people having pretty bad days. I have just the remedy." She pulled out a wooden drawer on her cabinet. Inside was stuffed with tea boxes. A soothing smell filled the room. Miranda stopped sobbing and watched to see what the teacher was doing. She filled up a mug with water, and put it in the miniature mircrowave.
"Now come pick out your tea, dear." Miranda, looking a little better now; walked over to the drawer of tea. She swore there was every type imaginable. Black tea, green tea, herbal tea, containing everything from apples to hibiscus. She finally decided on an organic green tea, with a panda on the box. She unfolded the lid and grabbed a bag. The smell settled upon her in a wave of relaxation.
The mircrowave beeped, and the elderly librarian dropped the teabag in.
"Here you are. If you ever need another boost, come talk to me. Also, if you need a refill, stop in!" she said the last part with a wink. She motioned Miranda towards the door.
"I know what will do the trick to get you feeling even better." Ms. Sun said, as she slipped her hand into her pocket, fishing out two slips of paper.
Neptune started to worry. What was wrong with Miranda? Her body pose when she walked in told him something was wrong. Her shoes were also untied. That never happened. She ALWAYS tied her shoes, especially if they came undone. He would have to ask her at lunch.
Miranda finally emerged from the office a little while after. She seemed happier this time, and she had a mug of tea in her hand that read, "I like books and tea. Deal with it." Neptune had seen Ms. Sun use that mug once, sometime in December. Must have been a ridiculous gift from another teacher. In her other hand, she held two slips of paper. They were a custom large sized ticket, probably 1 x 2. He noticed she quickly slipped these in her pocket when she saw the class I front of her. Neptune thought he might be mistaken, but wasn't that the school's prom ticket size?
Hi guys! I'm so sorry this chapter took so long, it's just I had a really hard time writing it. This chapter was so hard to write, I hated seeing Miranda hurt so much. In this story, I have tried to show how emotions(particularly love) literally bend people. It makes the shy strong, it can destroy a calm person's chill, and can fuel the flames of arrogance. It can also form strong bonds and loyalty.
