Dorian had saved me from dancing with Xavier and his absurd marriage proposal.
I turned to Dorian with a wide smile. "Thank you for saving me. I didn't know how much longer I could have dealt with him."
We both did a small curtesy before joining together in dance. Dancing in Dorian's arms was a mix of a rush and comfort at the same time. I could do this forever.
"You looked uncomfortable, as Captain of the Guards I found it most appropriate I ended your suffering," he said.
Dorian made a joke? This had me laughing. Dorian not being serious is always a scene.
"Dear god I was! Sooner or later he would have forced me to wed him," I laughed.
Dorian's grip tightened slightly. "Do you want to stay with me for the rest of the night? To avoid him that is."
"Yes, that sounds lovely!"
Dorian nodded his head, but a look of satisfaction crossed his face.
"So the Lord was your father?" I asked curiously. Dorian tensed up immediately. I ruined the night didn't I?
"Yes," he said quickly.
That was all? I couldn't help my curious nature. Mama always told me it would get me into trouble. "I was just curious as to why it didn't seem like you wanted us three to have a conversation."
Dorian's stern expression fell. "It's not what you think, you were not the problem. My father, he's a... peculiar man. I have no problem with your background, as a knight, my duty is to protect everyone equally, I do not differentiate. My father on the other hand, he would have said some very harsh words if he found out you did not come from a wealthy family. I was just trying to protect you."
He spoke with rage in his eyes. As much as what he said was horrible, there was something else going on in that head of his. "There's more isn't there?"
Dorian stared long and hard at me. "How is it that I try not to be read and have succeeded for years, but you come along and break all my walls?"
My cheeks burned a deep scarlet colour as my heart felt like it was going to rip open my chest. What is breathing at this point?
"To answer you question, we do not really get along despite what the public thinks," he said with his lips slightly turned down. There definitely was more to that story.
"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked offering him my friendship.
Dorian just stares at me for a few moments in silence. He let out a deep breath before continuing. "Tomorrow I will tell you everything about me. Let's just enjoy the night, shall we?"
"Alright Dorain," I smiled widely before gasping. "Oh dear! I sincerely apologize! This is the second time I do this. I promise to call you Captain from now on and not your name. How rude of me! Oh dear me..."
How could his name slip up so casually? I was so embarrassed. I called him Dorian when I hugged him earlier today. Two improper actions in one moment. Oh no, he probably thinks I'm a bad character.
Dorian let out a small chuckle before a smile took over his face. "Lady Liana, I like the way you say my name. In fact, I would like it if you would call me Dorian from now on, I would say we're passed the relationship of formalities."
My heart beat faster if that was possible. Dorian was smiling. Really smiling. And he even chuckled. Am I dreaming? I reached his face to make sure I wasn't dreaming. It was real! Oh wow! "Captain- I mean Dorian! You're smiling!"
