I heard her voice. As if she was there in my mind. It was so loud as if she was sitting right there, beside me. My head began to spin. I froze, she was smiling with joy. Like always. I closed my eyes and shook my head, but it didn't work.
"I swear, you were like family. Mom and dad never liked me. I couldn't come home." her voice sounded weak. I looked to her, she wasn't smiling anymore. A tear fell down her cheek, she was actually crying for once.
I didn't know how to respond. I thought really hard, 'I didn't realize. Mom and Dad love you! Don't think they don't.' I didn't know if what I was thinking was true. I strangely didn't want her to cry. I never would of believed that I would want to see that smile again.
"That's not true." she had heard me! Her voice came out softly. "They wrote me a letter at summer camp. They said they didn't want me to come home." she began to cry in her thoughts.
'Come on. That was probably a joke. They were worried sick when all that came home on the airplane was a bag full of knives.' I said this with meaning. That had driven my mother to Psycho Street for three years. She faded back to normal after going to a psychologist for 2 years. I closed my eyes but no tears fell.
"It had their signature and everything! You have no idea how angry that made me. It said they were keeping me at camp for the four weeks that were left in summer, and sending me off to a boarding school in California. What was I supposed to do? Send them a happy post card?" as she finished the last part, she began to choke out the words. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It wasn't true and I knew it. Why would she be standing in here without them even caring? They would care if they didn't want to see her. I was confused and sad at the same time.
'How can you be in here if they don't want you?' I thought. I could hear her smile in my mind.
"See that's the thing. They can't see me."
