It was just another typical day in sixth period chamber orchestra class. The bell had rung, yet there were still clusters of people gathered at the back of the room, clearly not ready to begin. Roy was furiously playing Passacaglia at an overly fast tempo that would have made Handel and Halvorsen cry, and Laurie and Natalie were laying on top of each other in such a position that Teague was probably ready to kill Laurie for stealing the love of his life.
Quickly losing her patience, Mrs. Lavelle silently stood at the front of the room, giving death stares to anyone who wasn't ready. Once everyone was seated, class finally began. Lavelle asked Enoch to stand up and play an A for tuning. After he had sat back down, a certain violist cheered for him from the back of the room while applauding his wonderful one-note performance (because open A, when played by Enoch, is quite a moving note)
Who was this "certain violist?" Jason Connor, of course. Recent events had caused Lavelle to harbor great displeasure against Jason. He was often caught switching instruments with cellist Will Han and giddily playing the cello as if it were his main instrument. Because of this, both Jason and Will were seated at the back of the room. This proved to be a huge mistake, as this allowed the two of them to exchange instruments whenever they wanted without being seen.
But Jason saw this as no mistake. He saw it as fate because now he could play and treasure and caress that cello even more than before. He felt that every time the two of them were together, there was a sense of love in the air. Jason didn't need a girl (or guy); he had his cello.
Actually, the cello wasn't even his. It was WiHan's. I need to change that, he realized. At the start of class the next day, he dashed into the cello storage room and grabbed the school cello that Will usually used. When Will arrived, he was disappointed to find his usual cello gone but didn't think much of it and simply used a different cello.
While Will didn't care, Jason cared so much more. He was overjoyed at finally uniting with the love of his life. Despite not really knowing how to properly play the cello, he made up his own technique that was close enough.
Surprisingly, Jason got through half of class without Lavelle noticing that he was using the wrong instrument. However, while Lavelle was passing out sheet music for a new strolling song, she finally spotted Jason lovingly hugging the body of his cello. Lavelle was ready to explode in anger, a long speech about the immaturity of the NAI Chamber Orchestra readied in her mind, when she looked the other way and saw that Peter, at his own stand, didn't even have an instrument in his hand.
Because her hatred for Peter was worse than her hatred for Jason, she decided to resolve matters with Peter first, storming over to him and angrily giving him the usual "I expect better out of someone in Chamber" speech. That was when she looked at Peters stand. There was no music.
At this point, Lavelle was done with Peter. She had no energy left to question where his music was, so she certainly had no energy left to question Jason's cello embrace.
Jason was forever grateful for this and thanked Peter afterwards. Much to Jason's delight, there was a sub the next day who let them have a study hall, in which Jason took advantage of every minute to be with his cello.
