For most people, January 1st is a somewhat special day, a new year, new start and so on. For Lynn, it meant the end of a much loved era. After today, it wouldn't just be her and her dad anymore. Today was the day his soon to be wife and son moved in. It had been ten years since Lynn and her dad moved from Sussex to the big city of Melbourne on the other side of the world, and she considered it her home town.

Lynn didn't know much about his fiancé, other than she had three sons and smelt like fresh linen and baby powder. She seemed nice, easy to live with and could cook. As nice as she seemed, having a new brother wasn't something she was looking foreword to.

Lynn heads to the bathroom to take a shower and wash her face. She dries her hair in a hurry and throws on a white T-shirt and tucks it into a pair of dark blue jeans. They'll be over in less than an hour.

Buzz, goes her phone. Lynn picks it up and answers immediately knowing its Melody, who most likely has some information on her new family. Thank god for nosey best friends.

"Hey, so out of curiosity...I kind of cyber stalked your family, you know just to make sure they weren't psychos."

"Sure." Replies Lynn, knowing why Melody really stalked them. "Is he hot?"

"So. Hot." Melody says, breathing out. "All her kids are literal sex gods."

"That explains why I'm her soon to be step daughter." Lynn jokes, grabbing her hairbrush.

"Oh, totally." Melody confirms sarcastically,"But seriously, I think I should come over to- support you."

"As much as I'd love that, don't you have studying to do Ms. Paramedic?" The blonde retorts, earning a sigh from her friend.

"L, you and I both know that me studying only leads to two things– 1. Me, Falling asleep on page four 2. Getting bored and decided to rewatch Criminal Minds."

Lynn laughs at how true it is, Melody wasn't known as "Fish Brain" for nothing. She focuses on brushing her fingers through her hair in an attempt to look more presentable, Lynn wasn't bothered with makeup today or any other day; it's summer. Too hot for anything other than light clothes and beach days.

"Mel, I've got to go. They're here, come over whenever, alright?"

She hangs up before she can hear a response, her eyes catch headlights shining through her blinds and she runs downstairs to meet her dad. He's standing there in a crisp white shirt and she can smell his good cologne, Lynn can't help but smile at how giddy he is.
