The nights, days and hours seemed endless; for I had been stuck in this horror house for ages. My life was depressing, and I didn’t know if I could take it anymore. I only know a few things about myself. One, I was born Quintus Zephyros Deion. Two, I’m one of the outcasts. Three, I was left here by my parents when I was two and I don’t know who they are or most of my happy past. I’m an orphan that’s fourteen years young. I only remember the current time, and there’s nothing good about it.
I live in an orphanage with many other kids, but this orphanage is like a shack, rotten and old. I’ve never talked to anyone in the outside world before because this orphanage is like a jail. No one can get out and you’re stuck here forever. Well, it’s a bit confusing. Once you turn seventeen, you’ll disappear from this place. I don’t know how and I don’t want to know.
Alright, so welcome to the future. It’s 3019 and life stinks. Most people live in small shacks by the side of the road due to economic despair. No one has bothered to fix it since the second millennia. So, our world has become a futuristic wasteland. I only know about this since I like history, and I’ve been reading some ancient books. The old scrolls and writings have probably disappeared, but they’re available in the supercomputer, but I prefer to use books. They may be old, but they have a heck of a lot of information in them. I love to learn and sadly, I probably have the last of the books since everyone has a supercomputer. I do, but it’s not the same. Once the continents Asia and North America were separated, but then the earth’s plate tectonics submerged together to create a super continent. It was renamed Pangaea, but I live in the North American part of Pangaea, where the skies are red and black clouds swirl in the sky. I even heard that the people in each region look like our long line of ancestors from long ago! But they did not care about the earth’s environment, so now it looks like this. I am disappointed with them for not recycling, but I appreciate the hard work they’ve done to make the future miserable. You have to love their determination. Ah, but please excuse my rambling. Old history is quite fascinating.
But this is what sets me apart. I like history, and no one seems to like learning here. I’m being ridiculed for being smart! Does that even make sense? But these people here are just plain evil. I call them the drones. As being part of the outcasts, once they set sight on your, they will torment you. But then, when adults come around, they act like little goody-two shoes, as if they’re little angels. But no, they’re little robots. They always suck-up to the nearest grownup, complimenting them and being nice. The girls are prissy beauty queens or divas, and the boys are beauty queens themselves. I find that quite peculiar. If you’re not in their group, then you won’t have a happy existence at the orphanage. I don’t get the concept of this, but this is life. Not everyone is a drone. Most of the outcasts turned seventeen last year and disappeared, so I’m one of the only outcasts here. I only know about myself and one other person. If there were other outcasts, I can bet you nine hundred dollars that they are hiding in peril somewhere, probably in the air vents. The only other outcast is Kayciance Nyte. She’s always creating trouble and I’ve never spoken to her. I’ve only seen her when she gets publically whipped at the dining hall for creating trouble.
I’ve never been outside, yet I’ve seen what it looks like. No one walks the streets and trash lays strewn on the ground. There’s nothing out there and I don’t suppose that a dinosaur would be randomly destroying houses out there. But, it’s dangerous, because I do see the Pangaea security patrolling the streets at random times of the day. But that’s it. I don’t know what’s outside since televisions have gone out of style. I always seem to wonder how the other kids in the orphanage learn about the “latest trends.” Since the internet has died and no one uses it anymore, it’s a wonder how people learn about these trends.
One morning, I was relaxing and doing what they called “yoga” in olden times. A sudden horn sounded. It was breakfast time. I walked out of the room.
