~*Chapter Four*~

Two months later, in November, my mom still hated Evan. She kept trying to convince me that he was a bad influence, and that he wasn't good for me. But, I refuse to listen; Evan means a lot to me. Lately though, I'd been feeling...different around Evan. I keep trying to tell myself that it's nothing, but every time he smiles, looks at me, laughs, touches me, calls me Ash, I feel all giddy and tingly inside. And when Evan looks at me, he looks differently. I have no idea how to explain the look, but it just seems different. But in a good way, there's something in his eyes when he looks at me now. I wonder if Evan feels this way too.

My mom was currently out of town for a week. She had this huge meeting in Houston, Texas that she was required to go to for her job. And I couldn't go with her, so I was stuck at home alone. I don't usually like staying home alone for too long but, in a way, I guess it's pretty cool. I can play my music as loud as I want (as long as the neighbors can't hear it) without my mom yelling at me, I can watch movies on the big TV in the living room whenever without her claiming that since she bought it she gets first dibs, I can take as long of a shower I want every night without having to share the hot water. I even invited Evan over for pizza and a movie (which ended with popcorn, skittles, and couch cushions everywhere) without having to ask my mom. This was gonna be a good week.

My mom comes home on Sunday. It was Friday night now, and everything was fine. I had't burned the house down yet, which made me feel pretty proud, considering my mom was worried I would. I sat on my bed, typing the finishing sentences to a short story I'd started about a week ago, when my phone buzzed. I picked it up and smiled when I saw Evan's name.

Evan: Ash!!!!! I'm bored....

I smiled and typed back.

Me: Ditto.

Evan: Well, we can't just sit and do nothing. It's Friday night!

Me: Well, what do you say we do.

Evan: I'm glad you asked. My friend Liam is having a party tonight, and I don't want to go alone....

Me: Then go find someone to take with you.

I'd been to parties before, and they could be fun, don't get me wrong. But, I just wasn't feeling it tonight. It felt more like one of those order-a-pizza-and-sit-on-your-couch-with-a-fuzzy-blanket-and-watch-comedy-movies kind of Friday.

Evan: Great idea! By the way, someone just knocked on your door.

I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion. I hadn't heard anyone knock.

A second later, there was a knock on the front door. I rolled off the bed, and ran down the stairs, to see who it was. Before I opened the door, I looked through the blinds to see who it was. I opened the door, and let Evan in.

"So, about that party..." Evan trailed off with a smile.

"Evan, I'd love to go. But, it feels like more of a chill out type of Friday."

"Come on, Ash. It's Friday night, you can't stay cooped up in here. Let's get out, have some fun, live our lives!"

I thought about it for a moment.

"Ok," I sighed. "I guess I'll come with you."

"Yes!" Evan fist pumped.

"Just let me go get dressed, then I'll be ready." I turned to run up stairs, but Evan grabbed my hand and stopped me.

"Why are you changing? You look great." He said with a smile, and that look in his eye.

I looked down at myself. I was wearing a pair of dark jean shorts, and a grey crop top fitted tee, with a red and black checkered flannel that was unbuttoned and had the sleeves rolled up to my elbows. My black and red box braids were was tied up in a bun, and I wore a gold necklace along with a pair of gold studs. I wore this to school today, and thought I looked pretty ok for school. But, for a party, I felt a bit underdressed.
