~*Chapter Two*~
The next day, I sat in art class, in the corner near the window, finishing up my painting. I'd decided on a picture of a sunset at the beach. So far, it was coming out to look pretty good. By the end of the period, I was finished with the painting and just needed to go back and clean up some of the places where I'd messed up. Since art was the last class on my schedule, I ask Ms. Peggerson if I could stay a few extra minutes to finish my painting. She let me. Before I got back to painting, I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. I set my brush down, and picked it up to see that it was a message from Evan.
Evan: Where are you?
I replied:
Me: In the art room. I'm almost done I promise.
I didn't get a response after that, so I tried to finish things up.
"Hey, Ms. Peggerson."
I looked behind me and smiled. Evan walked towards where I was and stood next to me.
"You did this?"
"Yeah. I'm almost done." I put the last few strokes on my sunset, and stepped back. "How does it look?"
"Beautiful. You're really good." Evan said, still staring at the painting in front of us.
"Thank you." I smiled and washed my brush iff, putting the extra paint away.
I slipped the huge, white, paint-splattered shirt over my head and folded it up; setting it in the ben wit all of the other aprons and over sized t-shirts. I went and grabbed my backpack, waving goodbye to Ms. Peggerson as Evan and I headed out. I made sure to call my mom and tell her that I was going to help a friend out with math homework. She approved, and Evan and I drove away in his jet black car. On the way to the café, neither Evan or I said anything. It was a peaceful sort of silence, not the awkward kind. When we got to the café, Evan offered to ordered for me, and I let him. He ordered the Dragon Fruit and Raspberry Tea with lemon for us both. After our plastic, Starbucks-like cups were handed to us, Evan started to walk towards the door.
"Wait, where are you going?" I stopped and asked confusedly.
"The park down the street."
"I thought we were gonna study here." Evan smiled and continued out the door. I walked faster, to catch up with him.
"Wanna know a secret?" Evan stage whispered as we walked down the sidewalk, and towards the park.
"Uh, yeah?"
Evan leaned down.
"I don't suck at math." He stage whispered.
"Wait, you don't?"
"Nope. I've actually got a pretty decent grade in math; a low A."
"Then, why did you tell me you did?" I asked confusedly.
"Because then you wouldn't have come to try out the new coffee place and sit at the park with me." Evan said with a shrug.
"Yes I would have."
"No, you would not have. Your mom already doesn't like me, and if I were to have told you that I just wanted to hang out, your mom would have asked where you were after school, you would have had to tell her, and she wouldn't have let you come." Evan explained, then took a sip of his drink. I took a sip of mine, and went over what he just said.
"Oh, you're good."
He was right. He'd thought the whole thing through beforehand, and he was right. That was what would have probably happened. I took another sip of the drink Evan had ordered for me. It was pretty damn good.
