“So where do you wanna go eat?” Luke asked. I looked out the window of his old red truck and looked out to all of the restaurants. I saw a familiar old beat up blue Buick decorated with “to be wedded” signs and streamers. “Pull the car over.” I spit. “what?” Luke asked “I said pull the car over!” Luke pulled into the strip mall next to the Buick. I got out and slammed the door. “Follow me.” I muttered. “Okay...” he said uncertainly. We walked over to the wedding shop and peeked through the window. There he was, my abusive father. Memories  of his fist barreling to my face and constantly dabbing concealer on my body to hide the bruises. Luke’s voice pulled me out of my trance. “Whats going on?” he asked “ Oh, I think my dad is in there.”

I walked into the store and Dad saw me. “Hey kiddo!” At least he was nice to me when he was sober. Sometimes. “Did you here the good news? I’m getting married!” he said happily. A bit to happily for my taste. “Where is the blushing bride?” I sneered “She’s next door getting her nails done.” He replied. I see look out of the corner of my eye looking at the bouquet arrangements trying not be noticed. “Well what do you think?” he asked while admiring his new tux. “Oh! I almost forgot your supposed to try this on.”  Dad said with his arm out while he looked at himself  in the mirror. I grabbed the dress and headed into the dressing room. As I unzipped the bag poofy pink fabric exploded from the bag. How ugly that dress was! it was big and poofy with puffy sleeves and a large pink skirt. I stepped out of the dressing room. My dads face lit up and I saw Luke laughing his ass off. Dad glared at him and he went quite. Oh god Luke please don’t be obvious if dad thinks we’re dating he’ll get his shot gun and shoot both of us. “ You look gorgeous!”

He laughed his breath smelled of whiskey and breath mints. I went back into the dressing room and changed out of that ugly thing!  When I came out I heard came back out I heard a southern drawl. The same one from last night. “Oh my god!” it said. It’s her, the woman of mystery. “I’m Ruby-Faye, Ruby for short.” She smiled and shook my hand. “Hi.” I said in a flat tone. “Well Dad I have to go study for a test. So yeah.... bye.” I ran out of the store with Luke following far behind me. Later that day around 9:45pm Luke and I were in my room sitting on the window seat with my legs in his lap and his fingers intertwined with mine hiding it out. We sat there listening to my Dad play is portable radio I hear a jingle at the door and “Call me Ruby-Faye” walked in the door. So now she has a key? Luke looked at me and smiled sweetly. I love Luke and his shaggy dirty blonde hair with green eyes, But its not just looks.

I live with my abusive drunk father and he used to live in  a house full of drug attics but he got out when he was fourteen. “Audrey! get your ass in here!” Said my drunk father Grant. I sighed and walked into his bedroom. Ruby-Faye had had added her feminine touch to the room. She added a sheer curtain around the bed exposing a naked Ruby-Faye. “What the hell happened in the store?” Grant slobbered. I closed my eyes trying to think of an answer but instead I felt a sting on my face. I opened my eyes and Grants fist came barreling toward my face. I fell to the ground and he kicked me over and over again until I was out of the room. He slammed the door shut.  I lay there on the floor of the kitchen crying with blood gushing out of my nose. I stood up trying to be strong but I was so sore all over.

I reached my room and Luke saw me. I started to fall but Luke caught me and lowered me to the floor. “That’s it! We are getting you out of here.” He hissed. I lay there on the floor, my body screaming n agony. The last thing I see before I pass out is the rain falling onto my bedroom window.
