Dad tossed my into his old Buick and begun to drive.

“How did you find me?” I cried

“The door man and I go way back your idiot.” he spit as he ran another red light.

“You would never be like this if mother hadn’t left you!” I yelled

He slammed down the breaks and my head with smashing into the dash board.

“You little bitch! You think she left me? She left YOU. She didn’t love you! She would have rather lived in fucking god knows where then have to spend another second with you. She doesn't love you. Bitch...” He muttered

I waited 2 days for someone to come and get me. But no one has come yet. I have been raped twice since i’ve gotten here. Once by grant himself and the other time but one of his beer buddies. I hear a whimper in the corner of my room. I sit up trying to get anymore burns from the rope my arms are bound by but when I look I see nothing. I hear Grant’s heavy footsteps as I settled back down to the small cot I once slept. Grant slammed the door open his pants unzipped and beer filled drool fell down his cheek.

“You.. are... a..” He fell to the floor before he could finish his last sentence.

“What do you want?” I cried,

“I want you to stay! This bitch, Ruby-Faye won’t stop bitchin about everything!” He shook his head in disgust.

I spit at him. “Your the reason I left your the reason I wanted to leave, your a drunk ass who cares nothing about anything except himself. You rape and beat and hurt others without a care. I never got to be a child because of you. I had to go on the internet and look up how to fix a broken wrist at home from when you clenched onto me too hard and you refused to take me to the hospital. I thought myself to to be the woman i wanted to be without a female role model. I always to care of myself. And now I have someone to take care of me. I have someone who loves  me and doesn’t want to do anything but help me. I love him. And he’s the -” I stopped talking. I can’t say anything about the baby living inside me or things could get worse.

“Who is he.” Grant spat.

A low growl rumbled in my chest, I lurched forward only to have the binds on my wrist stop me. “None of your god damn business.” I said.

“Alright then you bitch.” My father began to walk towards me as he reached inside his pocket. Grant pulled out his swiss amy knife and flip it out. He pressed it against my chin, the small silver blade making a cold dent into my skin.

“Go ahead. Do it. Kill me.” I spit in his face.

He slowly moved the knife away from my chin across my neck and then down to my wrist. He placed it there. Grant screamed and broke the bounds around my wrist. He pulled me up by my shirt and threw me against the wall.

“Get out! Go far far away because the next time I see you I’ll make sure you’ll be dead.” I slowly stood to my feet and stood up with a grimace on my face. Grant would never kill me. He didn’t have the guts.

I walked out to the kitchen, memories of Luke and I’s affairs flashed in my head. As I opened the door to the cold air Grant said. “I’ll give you one hour and then I’m coming for you. And this tim you’ll be dead.”  I stepped outside and slammed the door behind me. I began to walk. and then jog until I had broken out into a full blown sprint. I wasn’t going to let any old scum bag kill me. I ran and ran. Until my legs began to buckle beneath me. I wasn’t going to stop. I couldn’t I had to run. As far away from this place I could. I ran 4 miles and then further. People stared as a girl wearing nothing but an old flannel night gown flew passed them. With bleeding feet I ran more and harder and faster. I stop in dead sprint when I saw the door of my apartment building, peering around the corner. Beckoning me to come closer. No. I can’t go in through the front door. The door man walked out onto the front steps and whistled casually. He couldn’t see me but I could see him. And I knew who he was. How could I not have seen this before? I know exactly who he is! My mind flashed back to the time when Luke and I were at the motel, peering over the balcony railing down at my father and his beer buddies kick and spit below. He was there. Not in uniform to that why I couldn’t recognize him. The door man, Philip. Or Phil as my dad had put it. Phil was the one who told my Dad about my hiding spot.

A large group of giddy teen girls began to walk by.  They all lived together in the apartment across from us.I shoved myself in the centre of them and began walking. No one seemed to notice. I kept my head down as we walked passed Phil into the door.  They all headed for the bar in the lobby but I ran straight on to the stairs, taking them on two by two. As I reached the top I pulled opened the emergency door open and flung myself into the hall. I hit the wall hard and bounced out. As I began to run again I tripped and feel face first. The fronts of my legs were covered in rug burn and my temples were wet. I hit the wood corner of the wall with my head. Great. I jogged the rest of the way to my room, The door was unlocked. Quietly, I pushed my ear to the wall. I could hear nothing. I opened the door slowly prepared for anything. The lights were on and I saw Luke lying on the couch. I ran over to him.

“Luke! Luke!” I whispered.

I shook him roughly to wake him up.

“LUKE.”

He shot up wide awake.

“Audrey! Are you alright? Your bleeding... I tried to find you! But your dad... he had all the doors and windows locked and he was home-”

Stop talking we have bigger things to worry about. Grant is going to be here in 20 minutes unless we leave NOW. And if we’re here when he gets here he will kill both is us. Start packing. Anything, we need to get out of here. Understand?” I exclaimed. Luke nodded sternly.

At the same time we both shot up and began to scramble. I grabbed the large blue duffel bag and began to throw stuff in. Neatly leaving the other things folded or well put so if Grant came it wouldn’t look like we left in a hurry and fled. Which is exactly what we’re doing.

17 minutes left.

“Luke hurry!” I yelled

“I’m grabbing stuff! I’ve our bathroom stuff, grab the laptop!”

I ran over to the office and grabbed the laptop and the dog ashes. I know its weird but it means a lot to me. I scurried back over to the duffel and stuff everything in. Suddenly there was a anxious knock on the door. Luke looked at me wide eyed and terrified from the bathroom.

3 knocks. Silence. 4 knocks. Silence. banging more banging. Then a southern voice.

“Open up! Its me Ruby Faye!”

I walked over to the door slowly and skeptically.

“I’m alone I swear on my grand daddy’s oats! Pleas open up!”

I rolled my eyes and opened the door she pushed her way in before I could even open the door enough to see her face.

She came in bruised on her face with a red bag in her hand.

Luke brought all the things by the door. And stood there waiting.

“We have got to go now! your father is on his way. When I got home you were gone and he was screaming at you from the door. He saw me and became furious, he beat me and did things i don’t even wanna say. He knows this is where I am. He’s coming here! He is minutes away.” She said exasperated.

“Luke go pull the car around. Ruby and I will bring down the bags.” I ordered through my teeth.

Luke galloped through us and down the hallways to get the truck as Ruby and I bent over to collect the bags. We locked the door and began the run down the hallway. But I rememebered something I forgot. Something I needed. I sprinted back to the apartment and unlocked the stubborn door. I lunged to the coffee table and grabbed the picture of me and my mom. I met back up with Ruby and then we ran.
