Intuitive, devoted, thinker.
Papers and books were strewn all across the floor and table. There was hardly any space to yourself, except one little square where you sat with your legs crossed. Cups of coffee took up some space as well. You knew it was bad, but you still had some sanity left so maybe it was okay.
Your laptop screen glowed way too brightly. It burned your eyes, tempting you to turn down to brightness. But you couldn't, because then you'd fall asleep.
Your earphones were in, blaring some soft music that kept you concentrating. Still, it wasn't enough. You were on the edge of a sharp cliff, ready to fall with any small nudge.
Of course you couldn't give in yet, you just had to be stronger a little longer. You might suffer, but surely the end would make it all worth it? Well, it would be going better if this damn PowerPoint would cooperate..
The light flickered on, illuminating the previously dark room.
You let out an outraged cry, covering your eyes to protect them from the sudden threat. You ripped off your earphones in the process, ready to strangle whoever dared to enter your room.
When you removed your hands from your face, the person you least expected to be here was in front of you. The scoldings died in your throat just as quickly as they had been ready to form.
"Akaashi-"
"You'll damage your eyes even more with the way you squint at that screen."
Your mouth opened and closed similar to a fish out of water, shocked and desperate for words.
"I brought tea," he continued on. He settles himself across from you, sitting at the other end of the table.
He hands you one of the plastic cups, and you take a hesitate sip from the straw. It's good, but not a good enough substitute for coffee.
"Why tea?"
"Coffee isn't good for you."
"Right, thanks."
You continue taking small sips from it. Your eyes glue themselves back on the screen, but it's hard to concentrate when a cute boy was staring at you.
"Why'd you come?" You ask, cringing when you hear how croaky your voice sounds.
"Your sister called."
You raise an eyebrow at his vague explanation.
He sighs, "she told me you've been locked inside your room all day, and I knew what was going on so I came over."
"Your parents let you out this late?"
"They're not home."
"Oh."
He doesn't reply, so you're back to the uncomfortable silence. You're trying your best to ignore him, but his gaze doesn't waver except for when he looks down at the papers around you.
"You're worried again?"
"Well, yeah. I missed a few days."
"I can tell that it's not just that. You're usually quick to make up work, what else is on your mind?"
You pout, hoping that it's convincing. "I'm not always that great."
Akaashi frowns, looking like you had insulted him instead of yourself. "You're always great."
You can't hide the blush on your cheeks. You busy yourself with drinking more of the tea, hoping that he'd change the subject.
"[Name]."
"It's just some friend drama, no need to worry."
"Just some friend drama?"
"Yesss.."
"Why is it upsetting you so much?"
You internally groan. He really knew you way too much.
"If you help me finish this, then maybe I'll explain it to you."
Akaashi furrowed his eyebrows suspiciously. You could practically see the gears turning in his head, weighing whatever options that were going through his mind.
"Alright."
You grinned, then turned your laptop around for him to look at it. "Fix up any mistakes and whatever else you think could improve. I'll work on other papers."
Akaashi finished reviewing your project quicker than you had expected. It surprised you, because surely there were more flaws to it. He reassured you repeatedly that there were none.
"Akaashi, why are you even doing this?" You were hoping that it wasn't because he felt obligated to help out, because he wasn't. He really did much more than what you asked for. You were thankful for that, but it also made you feel guilty.
He looked up at you from some paper that he was reviewing. He gave you this look that made you feel like it was a stupid question to ask. Still, you wouldn't back down.
Akaashi sighed, collecting everything around him to make your surroundings neater. You nervously watched his hands dart around the table, while yours were tightly clasped together.
"I feel bad, you're coming in when it's close to midnight," you trailed off, avoiding his gaze. "You really don't have to."
"It's not good for you to be alone."
"But I'm fine-"
"No, you're not."
Akaashi's voice is firm, laced with a hint of concern. He's about to ask you about your problems, but you were desperately trying to avoid it.
"Hey," his voice is soft as he reaches across the table for your hand. His long fingers trace circles onto the back of your hand, trying to provide some comfort.
"What's going on?" His voice is still soft and comforting, and you're starting to tremble.
A quiet whimper threatens to leave your throat, so you bite your lip tightly as the first tear rolls out. He doesn't say anything about it, instead choosing to continue rubbing your hand.
You sigh, wiping away the lone tear with your free hand. "Okay, so, you know Rika-chan? That girl I sit next to in biology," you start quietly.
He nods along, listening to how one of your best friends was getting upset over you becoming closer to Rika. They were both jealous and their personalities crashed too much. It upset you, because they had decided that it was either one or the other.
You refused to choose between two people you cared about a lot.
Akaashi had moved to your side at some point while you explained the situation. Now your head rested on his shoulder, with his fingers running through your hair.
"You should talk to both of them, make them understand the situation they're putting you in. What they're doing to you isn't fair." Akaashi pauses his movement in your hair to press a kiss to your forehead.
"It's going to be okay at the end," he reassures you, almost convincing you right then and there that he was right.
You smile weakly, doubtful of his words. "Really?"
He smiles back, more genuine. "Of course."
