Chapter 1*Jamie*
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP-BEEP!
"Ugh!" I rolled over and slammed my hand on the "OFF" button. "Whoever invented alarm clocks needs the piss beaten out of them..."
I yawned and tried to cover my face with my pillow, just to have something pounce on my bed. I cried out, sat up and faced my attacker, only to have my six-year-old sister, Anna Kate, push my nose.
"Mommy says its time to get up, Jamie," she said, giggling. I rolled my eyes and playfully tossed her onto the floor, which only made her laugh louder. Then she kept slapping my arm until I reacted.
I sighed and moved my arm away from her (surprisingly forceful) slaps and replied, resigned, "All right, all right, I'm getting up, Anna Kate."
I stumbled down the hall to the kitchen, and grabbed some bread. I made some toast and slumped into my chair. I barely heard Mom's cheerful, "Hello, Jamie!" or my twin brother's grumpy, "Breakfast, made by you, Jamie? Uh, no."
Anna Kate laughed, and though Mom scolded Jeremy, I could see her fighting to hold in a smile. I sighed and took out my burnt toast. "Fair point," I said, dropping the disaster into the trash can.
"Now, for some real food," Jeremy pulled out a granola bar and Mom giggled a bit.
I happened to look over at the clock, and what is aw there freaked me out. A lot "Crap! It's, like, 7:30!" I ran up to my room and opened my closet. I pulled out a turquoise-colored t-shirt, some blue jeans, an my knee-high black boots. I ran into Jeremy in the hall, who was struggling to get his shoe on as he hopped on one foot to the bathroom.
The only bathroom in the house.
"Oh, no you don't!" I screamed, charging. He dropped his shoe, taking this as a challenge, and we nearly murdered each other trying to get to the bathroom.
I, of course, lost, so I had to wait outside if the room for about five minutes. When he came out, grinning, I socked him in the arm. Hard.
"You started it," he muttered sourly, but I saw him smirk when he thought I wasn't looking. I rolled my eyes and stepped into the bathroom.
I brushed my long, whitish-blonde hair, and applied my mascara and a hint of gray eyeshadow that sparkled just slightly. I glossed my lips, used the bathroom and then I was outta there.
By now, Anna Kate and Jeremy were both dressed and ready. Anna Kate wore a yellow shirt with a pink flower on it and a white skirt. Her pink shoes tapped the floor as she ran to get her purple backpack, and as she ran to the car.
Jeremy had on a black jacket to hide his shirt's color. He had blue jeans (darker than mine), and black converses. I smiled. It seemed like he wore the same thing every day.
"So, that looks the same as yesterday," I confronted him, nudging his side. "Is it, like, a uniform?"
He snorted. "You can talk. T-shirt and jeans again?"
I rolled my eyes, but still smiled. We both talked as though we were fighting, and if it had been anyone else (except, maybe my boyfriend and my best friend) who'd said something like that to me, I'd probably take it as an insult. "Let's just get our school ID's and go," I said.
We both pulled our ID's out of our backpacks and put them around our pale necks. Then my brother and I proceeded to the car.
----
"Bye kids, I love you!" Mom told us as we got out at the high school. Anna Kate had already gotten out at her elementary school earlier, and we were both antsy from sitting in the car for, like, fifteen minutes.
