Chapter 2 *Jamie*

I left my 7th period and went to the parking lot about seven or eight hours later. I was a car rider along with my brother, Steph, Alex, and Caroline. Ebony rode the bus every day.

Waving briefly to Steph and Caroline, who were both chatting on a bench, I scanned the crowd for Alex. And then, I saw him.

Naturally, he was surrounded by girls, including Cece. She had long red hair that was always in a cheerleader ponytail, and of course, a low cut top. She always wore one of those, and/or a miniskirt. Little slut.

But Alex wasn't hooked. He never had dared to look at another girl. Because he knew what he'd lose; me. I locked eyes with him, and he pushed past Cece and her "sexy" friends.

"Hey, James James!" he laughed, using my nickname (he'd given it to me) as usual. "What's up?"

I sighed. "I have a sleepover tonight at Ebony's place. It's going to..." I thought of a word to describe it. "It's going to be pretty awkward. I barely even know Ebony."

"Wait...tonight?" Alex said, confused. "Aren't we going on a date tonight?"

My eyes widened in realization. "Oh, crap, Alex! I, like, totally forgot! I'm soooo sorry!"

He blinked, shrugged, and smiled a bit, causing the cutest dimples in his cheeks. "No worries. It can wait." But even as he turned and walked towards his car, I could see the flash of hurt and anger in his eyes.

All of a sudden, someone slapped me super hard on the arm. "Ow! What was that for?!" I turned and saw Steph, having overheard the whole thing, glaring me down.

"Like, what the hell Jamie?!" she said angrily. "Can't you see that you hurt him? Alex was so excited to finally see you after such a long time!"

I sighed again and shoved my hands in my jeans pockets. "It doesn't matter. It's done and now he'll just have to deal with it."

"Lemme see your phone."

I looked up to see Steph's calmed face. "Huh?" I narrowed my eyes suspiciously. "Are you gonna do something?!'

"No. I left my phone at home and I need to call Dad. Just. Gimme. The. Damn. Phone."

I shook my head and unzipped the front pocket of my backpack. I pulled out my iPhone and handed it to her. The moment I did I somehow knew I'd regret it.

Steph smiled. "Thanks, Jamie, you're a peach!" Then she tapped something on my phone, clapped her hand over my mouth, and held it up to her ear.

"Hey, Aleeeex!" she tried and failed to impersonate my voice. "Yeah, I have a bit of a sore throat, sorry!" I squirmed and licked her hand but Steph refused to let go.

"So, um, I think that we should be able to go at an earlier time for our date. Yeah, jut pick me up at my house in and hour. Byeee!" She hung up.

When I finally bit her hand she let go and shrieked, "Owwww!"

"Serves you right," I snapped. "What the hell was that?!"

Steph rolled her eyes. "Oh, pleaaase. I was doing you a favor." She handed my back my iPhone and continued softly, "If you don't start meeting him half way in this relationship, your gonna lose him."

I shook my head. "I'm sorry, Steph, but this is my first boyfriend since Collin in ninth grade. I'n a bit rusty." I kicked a lose pebble on the ground.

"Don't think that bring up Collin gets you any pity. That was years ago. Get. Over. Him."

I felt tears well up in my eyes. Being my savior, my twin shouted from some place, "Jamie! Time to go!"

Mumbling, "I gotta go," I shuffled away to my Dad's car.
