Chapter 4 *Jeremy*

The ride in the car on the way home was silent. I didn't know why. But I could guess, that by the look on Jamie's face, that it had been a bad day.

Dad didn't dare to say anything. He knew she wouldn't answer - Jamie never really talked about her life.

Finally I attempted to break the awkward silence by asking, "So, er, sis, how was your day?"

"I don't think so."

I sighed and turned my attention to the window. I watched the trees as we sped by, and somehow, I got the sickly feeling in my stomach that someone was watching us. 'Thank God for tinted windows,' I thought.

When we drove up, I was the first to get out. I grabbed my backpack and carried it inside, along with my binder. I hurried up to my room and shut the door.

Dad, once we had both gotten our stuff out, drove off to pick up Anna Kate from school. I started on my math homework (which Jamie called "Mental Abuse To Humans") and then my english work.

I finished after about thirty minutes and then ran downstairs to watch T.V. There I found Jamie, all dressed up.

She had on a cute dark blue dress that flowed around her knees, black leggings, and black heels. "What's the occasion?" I asked, as she brushed through her log, wavy blonde hair.

"Oh. Um, I'm going on a date - can you believe it?" Jamie replied, nervously dragging the brush through her hair even faster. "H-How do I look?"

I smiled. "Beautiful."

"Aww, thanks bro. Imma go do my makeup. Tell me if he comes, 'kay?" With that, my sister went to the bathroom.

I waited in the living room for her to be ready. I kept watching the door. It was so silent, that when the doorbell rung, I jumped about ten feet into the air. "Er..coming!" I said, composing myself and walking to the door.

There, some guy wearing a black tux and holding a rose out to me, smiled. Until he saw who was gaping at the door.

"Oh..." he blinked, hiding the rose awkwardly behind his back. "I didn't...is Jamie...who are you?" I could see a little flicker of jealousy and anger flash across his face, though only for a split second, as he looked at me up and down.

I just crossed my arms. "So, Jamie didn't tell you about me? That hurts," I sighed, shaking my head. "Don't be mad. I'm not, like, a secret boyfriend or anything." I wrinkled my nose in disgust at the thought.

"Then who the hell are you? What are you doing in Jamie's house?!"

I tried not to laugh. This was fun.

We both froze when Jamie's voice said from behind me, "Jeremy, stop torturing my boyfriend!" Jamie pushed her way past me and smiled. "Alex, this is Jeremy, my twin brother."

He raised his eyebrows. "Oh, you didn't see the resemblance?" I laughed, shaking my head again. This guy was so stupid. Jamie could obviously do better. Rolling her eyes, she continued, "And this is Alex, my boyfriend."

I politely shook his hand. "You kids have fun now." And, after Jamie had walked to the car, I leaned over and whispered in Alex's ear, "Don't have sex with her or I'll kill ya." (Mainly I did this just for affect and my own amusement).

With that, I left Alex thinking as he walked to the car. Then I slammed the door as though I were mad, but I was actually laughing all the way back to my bedroom.
