Chapter 6 *Stephanie*
"Alex. He's my boyfriend," Jamie told Caroline, not even trying to hide the dreamy look in her eyes. God, she's such a girly-girl around him.
Not like I can say anything, liking Caroline and all. I mean, yeah, it was no secret that I was a lesbian, everyone knew that, but at the same time they all had it wrong. The rumor at school was that I liked Jamie. So not true.
I wondered if Caroline liked me back; it was impossible to tell. Since Jamie and I both had no idea if she was straight or not, I could guess that I had a chance. I hoped. I sighed and looked over to see Ebony, talking on the phone.
"Ok, so, bye," she said into her phone before hanging up. When I asked who it was, she answered, "Oh, it's just a friend of mine. Her name's Destiny. She and I have different classes this year, so we haven't gotten to see each other much. But that's gonna change."
I was smiling on the outside, but in my head I was saying, 'Oh, great! Another girl in our little group; how nice.'
I coughed a little before saying loudly, "So, Jamie, how was the daaate?"
Everyone's heads snapped in the direction of Jamie. Her face turned a rich tomato red and she hissed, "Steeeeeeppppphhhh!!!"
"Well, I have to know, Jamie!" I cried. "Did it go good, or bad, or medium?! Did he look cute? Was he, like, well behaved? Did you have your first kiss? Where'd you go? Was it a long date? Did you eat out? How did his-"
"For the love of God," she shrieked, "shut uppppp! My head is pounding, Steph!"
I giggled. I knew I was a "motormouth" (that's the nickname almost everyone called me behind my back, and even though I knew, I thought it was funny, so I just let them). "Sorry, girl. But I just gotta know! Pleaaase tell us!"
Caroline chimed in, "Yeah, please, Jamie?!"
"Tell us! We need to know!" Ebony begged.
Finally, after about five more minutes of this, Jamie gave in. "Fiiine, guys." We all eagerly crowded around her.
"So, it wasn't that great," Jamie started, obviously trying to hide (and, if I may add, very unsuccessfully) her absolute love of this, "he just took me to a play park. We chilled for a while, and then Alex drove us to Taco Bell. Sooo not romantic or anything. We ate and then came here. And that was it."
Caroline and Ebony sighed, but I wasn't convinced. I'd known this girl since I was twelve years old, so I knew if she was hiding something. "Right, right," I said. "Now what happened that your not telling us?"
Jamie flushed. "Dammit, Steph, how do you do that?!"
I giggled. "Years of practice."
She rolled her eyes. "Ok, ok, so this one crazy thing did happen." The other girl's heads jerked up as Jamie continued, "he...kissed me."
We all gasped, then slumped when she quickly added, "Not, like, a real kiss, just on the cheek. Sorry to disappoint. Anyways, we were in his car, and he said that he liked me a lot, then kissed my cheek. It was so awkward, 'cause I didn't know what to do. So we were just silent or a minute...then we came in here."
We were all frozen, until Ebony began teasing, "And soon you'll be saying the 'l' word!!" Caroline and I started giggling, but Jamie's face just when redder. I chimed in, "And then, before you know it, they"ll be making out in the caaaar..."
"Wha...no..." Jamie gasped, flustering. "Sh-Shut up, guys!"
Caroline and I, though, kept joking. "Aww, Steph, look at this little girl, all grown up!" I smiled and laughed. "She's already kissing men! Soon she'll be married and a mom..."
"Oh, honey, what are we gonna do with you?!" I said southern-style, snapping my fingers. Jamie frowned, turned her nose up, and spun in the direction of Ebony's bedroom door. I just laughed harder.
Ding-dong! Ding-dong!
"Oh my God, it's Destiny!!" gasped Ebony, dropping everything on her bed. She swung open her bedroom door and rushed out. I raised my brow as Caroline and Jamie, with serious faces now asked, "Who's Destiny?"
I turned towards them and answered, "Apparently there's another guest. Her name is Destiny. She's Ebony's old friend that she never sees anymore."
Jamie groaned, but the other girl said, "Well, don't worry, we might like her! Who knows? We could make friends anywhere." I smiled at Caroline's positive attitude. On que, the door closed and a loud "Hey y'all!" filled our ears.
I spun around to see a young, but really tall girl with straightened, caramel colored hair with a big purple streak. Her eyes were a deep blue with grey swimming in it. She wore black square-shaped glasses and a silver colored necklace with "D" hanging from it. This was Destiny?!
"Ebony, who all these girls crowdin' up yo room?!" Destiny put her hands on her hips. "I thought this was our sleepover."
"Errmm..." Ebony started, trying to think of something. But before anything else could be said, Caroline burst between them, grabbed Destiny's hand and shook it, yelling, "Hiya!!! I'm Caroline! Your name's Destiny?! Cool!! I loooove that name!" I peeked in the corner of my eye and saw Jamie trying to cover her giggles with a loud fake cough.
Destiny jerked her hand away. "Get off me!! Creepy -!" She cut herself off when she noticed me.
"Oh, God, Ebony, why you got a lesbian in here?! I don't want no lesbians peeking at my undies or somethin'." The hurt must have been written all over my face, because Jamie pushed me gently aside and stomped up to Destiny.
I watched as she yelled, "REALLY?! HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF 'THINKING'?! ITS SOMETHING PEOPLE DO TO KEEP OPINIONS IN THEIR HEADS, STUPID!! UGH!" Jamie got right in Destiny's face. "YOU TAKE THAT BACK!!!"
Destiny crossed her arms. "Bitch, you check yo-self! You the one screamin' about opinions! Shut yo mouth!!" Now even bubbly Caroline had narrowed eyes as she wrapped her arms around me whispered, "It's ok, she's just a jerk..."
Suddenly I felt a little better with her hugging me. I embraced her more as I heard Destiny yell, "God! Why'd you invite these rude girls?!" I peeked over I see her storming to the living room.
There was a few minutes of silence. Then, Jamie hissed, "How the heck are you friends with that asshole?!"
Ebony coughed and went to unpack Destiny's things.
