"Oh! Sorry! Must've been the wrong house! Let me just-" Michael tried, weakly.
"Oh no! Do come in! We'd be delighted for some company!" My dad opened the door farther so he could enter.
Michael entered, head down to the floor, and came over to me. His hand gently brushed my hand, but he quickly put them behind his back.
"So, Cassandria. This is who you've been out and about with after school instead of coming straight home," my dad said, slowly walking back to the center of the living room.
"Why do you care I haven't been going straight home? You're never here." I really had no idea where any of what I was saying was coming from.
"Has this boy been bringing this out in you?" He asked, stepping closer to Michael. I tensed, but responded with, "No, actually protecting me."
"What if I just took all that protection away from you?" He asked, noticeably louder. He came even closer to me. "Or even better, what if I just take away his need."
"Don't touch me-" I attempted, before being slammed back into the wall behind me. I heard my mom scream and Stephen had ran down the stairs to her. My head was hit the hardest and my vision was blurring slowly. "I can end this now. You'll never have to deal with me ever again." My dad hissed in my face. His breath smelled of heavy alcohol and possibly drugs. "Why are you like this?" I whispered, not able to make my voice any louder.
"This f***ing family has turned me this way! If I hadn't had any of you in my life, I would've been so much better off!" He yelled at me. My eyes began producing tears out of reaction, not out of hate. "You know you can change-" "Not with you!" He slapped my cheek and the next thing I know, I was pushed out of the way and in my place stood Michael.
"Leave her alone!" He said, firmly. "Boy, you don't know what you're getting yourself into." My dad said, lowly. "Michael! Please don't!" Tears filled my eyes, mostly out of guilt. "Why the h*** would you want to save her?" My dad said to Michael, looking straight into his eyes.
"Because I love her. I want to protect her with my life. Better me than her." Michael said, firmly. Not a hint of regret was shown in his face.
"Alright, you said it, not me," my dad said, throwing out a punch. Thankfully, Michael being a few inches shorter than him, he ducked. I tried not to burst, but it was getting harder by the minute. I sat down against the wall. I could hear my mom calling the police; something she swore she'd never do against my dad. I couldn't help Michael, due to my blurred vision and pounding head. I had to have gotten a severe concussion.
A few minutes into this nightmare, my dad had thrown a successful punch, and it him in the stomach, knocking the wind out of him. He dropped to his knees. I didn't even have the energy to cry out. The last thing I remembered was my dad kicking me, Michael, helpless on the floor, and the blurred lights of the police that had broke down the door to save us.
