*Melinda's POV*
Kody and I talked and talked even after his dad and friend were across the road. He had to leave but he did give me his phone number, which I greatly appreciate.
I mean, that was the least he could do. I stand alone at the crosswalk again, having missed the one damn chance I had for a while.
Ah, what does one do when she's stuck at a crosswalk? She spins, dances, uses the google machine, dances some more and just eye the light.
This is bullshit.
It takes only a few more minutes before a slow moving car starts chugging down the street and I finally see my chance.
This may be the only chance I have! I must take this opportunity and delve into the asphalt stream of terror!
Actually it's more like I'm playing frogger all over again...
DON'T FUCKIN RUN MY ASS OVER PLEASE.
I take a deep breath and eye the oncoming car which is still a good ways away and going like two miles an hour. Slowly I step onto the street and take a few rapid steps.
Then I jump ten feet in the air when the car honks at me.
I flip the driver off, who is actually just the old cranky man from down the road, and run across the road. He ruined my epic movie moment so screw it.
I sigh again and continue in the direction of the 7-11 from yesterday.
Maybe I'll run into that nice girl again. Probably not but I can hope.
I jog down the sidewalk and past the 7-11. Looks like Beth is gone already because some other guy is behind the counter. He looks kind of familiar too... oh wait, yeah I've seen him before in the halls at school. I think his name is like... Ledo or something? I can't remember.
Ah well.
I continue on, somehow ending up on the fancy side of the neighbourhood, y'know where all those nice houses are? Yeah.
I pass a nice looking house, one of those dream houses that most people want with the white picket fence and such.
"Hey! Hey, Melinda!" A voice shouts from the side of the house. I look over to see a familiar head of black hair.
"Beth?" I squint, she lives there?
She waves frantically. "Yeah! Hi!"
"Nice house." I say, meeting her gaze. She smiles. "Thank you!"
I bounce on my heels for a moment. "Well, uh, I see your shift ended?"
"Oh yeah, it ended like thirty minutes ago. And if you don't mind my asking..."
"What are you doing out? It's like 10:30."
