"If I had you, there's nothing I wouldn't do."

Hazel wrote for no one in particular. At the age of 17, she was still waiting for her first crush to come along. She wanted the real deal - somebody who would be serious about her, and their relationship. And so far, all she had seen was irresponsible boys.

"I want men,"

She wrote.

"Not boys."

She wanted so badly to already go to college, to escape boring life in Colorado. But it seemed that no matter where she went, home would always find her.

It was like this: You can take Colorado out of Hazel, but you can't take Hazel out of Colorado.

It wasn't like she was below average - she excelled in everything she did, especially field hockey. She was hoping for a full scholarship because of her field hockey status.

She had applied to all of her dream colleges, such as Harvard, Howard, Yale, and even a few in Europe.

It wasn't like Hazel to not have a back up plan. But for once, she didn't have one. This was it...she needed to get into one of her dream schools.

She decided to sleep on her choices. She thought her mind would be better with time.

But when she woke up the next morning, everything was much foggier. She was in a daze, her head full of fuzz. For the first time ever, she didn't feel like going to school, and was seriously considering staying home.

That was a first for her, though; she never stayed home from school, except that one week in pre-k when she had chicken pocks.

She waited for her head to clear, but it decided that it never would. So she sucked it up, and drove herself to one of her last few high school days.

Hazel didn't have many friends, but the few that she had were amazing. She kept them close to her all the time, and they did everything together. But Laina, her best friend of 5 years, would be attending a college in England as she plays in the London Symphony Orchestra. (I wish to do this one day)

Wes, her friend for two years, was the only one who didn't have many plans for college. He knew he wanted out of state, somewhere far away from Nebraska. He wanted to major in psychology, and wasn't very sure where to do it.

Hazel was a very complex creature, you see. She wanted to major in something that wasn't very practical, like photography or journalism. She just wanted to be different from others, and take a risk. It would be the biggest risk she would ever take, and could cost her her future.

"Haaaaaazel, girl." Laina said as she found her friend standing at her locker. Laina walked up to her as Jenelle was talking with Hazel about some German project.

"Hey," Jenelle and Hazel said at the same time.

"Where do you want to go for lunch later? I was thinking of go-"

Just then, a tall brunette walked by, and smacked Hazel's butt.

Startled, she hit the closest thing to her in the face, her palm kissing the brunette's face. "Excuse me," she said rather loudly. "Unless you want me to really kick your ass, you'd keep walking."

The boy's faced was unchanged. Anger rose up in Hazel's face at the thought of someone doing something like that to her, that they had brought her to cause pain to them. "Keep walking." Jenelle warned, giving him a nasty glare.

After the boy was a good distance apart form the group of girls, Laina and her two friends for back to their conversation. "I can't believe him, that James Diamond."

Jenelle scoffed. "He's such a turd." She flipped her brown hair over her left shoulder. "I don't even know why Tila dated him last year. It makes zero-"

"Wait, his name is James Diamond?" Hazel asked, still caught up in the recent event. She had seen that face before, but just couldn't put the face with the name.

"No duh," Laina scoffed. "We've only went to school with him since 3rd grade." Jenelle uncomfortably crossed her arms.

"Yeah, I remember when he used to be really cool. Everyone liked him in 3rd grade." Jenelle said, shifting her weight from leg to leg. "But right when we hit 9th grade, he decided he'd be overconfident and a total jerk."

"No kidding." Laina agreed, highfiving Jenelle.

Sometimes it seemed as if the two brunette girls, Laina and Jenelle, were always bonding. And then it seemed as if Hazel, the odd one out of the group for being blond, was just the awkward third wheel. This time, Hazel decided to shake it off.

"Hey, baby." Wes said, wrapping his muscle arms around Hazel's waste. He smelled her hair prior kissing her neck. "Sup?"

"Cut it out, Wes." She laughed, shaking out of his grip.

They weren't a thing - Heavens no - they were just really close friends that almost dated once. But both of them had agreed that it would never amount to anything.

As Hazel was about to get a word out, the bell for first period to begin rang. "Well, see you guys later, I guess." She said to her two best friends. She watched as Laina and Jenelle strutted away, talking to each other as if nobody else was in the hall.

Wes quickly caught up with Hazel, his shaggy blond hair bouncing as he jogged up to her. "What's going on? Not feeling it today?" He asked, cornering her.

She rolled her eyes, but scoffed. She looked deeply into his sky blue eyes, almost tempted to kiss him.

Almost.

He felt the flames as their bodies came into contact, and smiled as she him invited towards her. Her green eyes were gleaming, and perfect as ever. Wes was never completely sure of what he wanted ever, but he might know one thing...

He leaned in, inching closer and closer to her face. She could smell his Cologne, and thought of how perfect he smelled. She considered the consequences of the kiss, but she realized that she didn't care. She should just live in the moment, like everyone else. But just when she was about to go in for the kiss-

"I'm not going to kiss you." She teased, continuing to walk down the hall.

She waited for the words that she knew would come: "One day!"
