It had been over two years since my break up with Kalel, and I was becoming too old to be dating with no purpose behind it. Ian, on the other hand, had gotten into the habit of surprising me with blind dates on random occasions. Tonight's date was Nina, a preppy girl without an ear for music. I knew nothing about music, but I could understand that she and her friend didn't sound good. She was desperate for a relationship, but I had no interest in seeing her. I glanced to the left and noticed the dark haired girl with another couple. As they finished the song I moved quickly in that direction with no plan in mind. Embarrassment was the only word that could describe my encounter with the mysterious girl and her friends.
Nina dragged me back towards our table and I rolled my eyes, willingly letting her guide me away. I glanced back to see Jade sitting alone at the table. Her eyes met mine for a moment before she glanced back to watch the next person preforming. I sat down between Nina and her friend and fidgeted my hands as she clung to my arm, "Excuse me," I said to Nina and stood up quickly. I moved back towards the table and Jade's eyes met mine. .
"Quite some talent you have sitting with you," she said sarcastically as I sat down across from her.
"I know," I told her with a shy smile as I stared into her eyes, "You are very talented."
She held her empty coffee cup in front of her face, "What do you want?" She asked bluntly and put her cup down on the table.
"You interest me." I told her honestly and her right eyebrow slightly lifted.
"You don't know what your getting yourself into," she told me and I shrugged my shoulders.
"You don't scare me," I told her, finally feeling a bit powerful.
"Really?" She asked with a scoffing laugh and a sassy smile tugged at her lips, "You don't even know me."
I didn't say anything and she raised her right eyebrow effortlessly again. I slightly began smile as she stared at me, "Who's the girl who keeps looking over here?" She asked me with a straight face and I glanced over to see Nina casually glancing in this direction.
"A blind date," I told her, "but I'd much rather be over here talking to you."
"Why?" She asked harshly and folded her hands in her lap, "What condition do you have that makes you rather be talking to me?"
"You're beautiful," I told her honestly after a moment of hesitation.
"Oh!" she said with wide eyes, clearing her throat, "So you saw me from over there and thought, 'hey! Let me ditch my actual date and talk to this random girl instead!'," her voice had changed for a moment, as a form of mockery, but returned to normal when she finished by sarcastically saying, "How romantic."
I shrugged my shoulders, "That's one way to look at it," I told her as I quickly glanced over at my friends, "It is quite romantic." I said jokingly with a goofy smile on my lips.
She kept the cup hiding the lower half of her face. Her eyes stared directly into mine, "Beauty isn't anything. You don't know me." She told me seriously, but she didn't scare me.
"Like what?" I asked her with big eyes, leaning my elbow on the table and placing my chin in the palms of my hands. Her eye brows moved up and her eyes locked on mine, but she didn't say a word, "I'll know eventually."
I flashed her a quick smile and glanced back to see my 'date' looking back at us, "Are you leaving?" She asked as I began to stand up, "But I'm having so much fun talking to you." She said it sarcastically, but something about her tone made me believe the words she spoke had something hidden behind them.
