The next evening, when I arrived at the Karaoke Club, I noticed the dark haired girl standing near the door, "Hey," I said to her happily, "Do you have plans tonight?"
"Maybe," she said, still with an unamused tone. I noticed her coffee cup that was gripped tightly in her hand and slightly smiled. She always had coffee.
"Would you like to go on a date with me?" I flashed her a quick smile and she raised her eyebrows slightly.
"Where?" She asked me with little interest in her voice.
"I was thinking that we could go back to my place and watch a movie?" I said to her as more or a question, "My roommate should be-"
Before I could finish my thought I heard his voice shout my name. I turned around to see Ian waving his hand in the air. He was followed by all of our friends and had two unfamiliar females walking beside him. He flashed me a goofy smile and I took a deep breath before glancing back to look at Jade. She had a smirky smile tugging at her lips and raised her eyebrows.
"Anthony," Ian called again as he got closer and I turned back to look at him, "This is Tina!" He motioned towards the blonde girl beside him.
"Hi, Tina," I said unenthusiastically with a slight wave and she batted her long eye lashes at me.
"Let's go inside," Ian smiled and lightly hit my shoulder.
"I'm actually not staying tonight," I told him hesitantly, not wanting to hurt his feelings, "I made plans."
He quickly glanced at Jade then stared into my eyes, "What do you mean?" He asked with a nervous laugh and his smile faded to form a straight line.
"I mean, I don't need you setting me up on blind dates anymore," I told him cautiously and I saw his eyes drop, "I'm sorry, man."
"No, man, it's no big deal," he forced himself to say, then glanced at the two girls, "C'mon, ladies." I avoided looking up as all of my friends filed into the building.
"Are you ready to go?" I asked Jade hesitantly and she moved away from the wall, "Sorry, that's my best friend." She hopped into her car and drove behind me until we arrived at my house.
"Are you renting this place?" She asked as we entered through the garage door.
"No, we call it the Smosh house," I told her, sounding like a nerd, "Ian and I are staying here for now. This is where we film some of our videos."
"Speaking of, when am I going to see these videos?" She asked me as we stepped into our bland colored house and I shut the door behind us.
"That's more of a fifth date deal," I told her with a nervous smile, "I can't have you judging me too early in our relationship." She seemed to shy away from that word, but simply walked further into my house without saying a word in response.
"I only like horror movies," She told me as she moved into the living room and fell into Ian's spot on the couch.
"I didn't really feel like watching a movie," I told her and she watched me as I approached the couch. I sat next to her and she turned to look at me, "I just didn't feel like sitting in a crowded karaoke bar tonight. Why don't we get to know each other a little more?"
She wasn't ecstatic about the idea, but she played along. I learned a lot about her, and after our two hours of sitting on the couch together I finally had the courage to reach my arms around her shoulders. She didn't pull away or have any distinct reaction like I had suspected, she just continued to sit and talk to me.
Eventually she was leaning on my shoulder and the room was completely quiet. We were staring forward, but there is no one I'd rather be doing nothing with.
The door swung open and Ian walked into the house. His eyes met mine and he
Immediately turning into the kitchen, "I guess we should call this a night?" I asked her. I glanced at the clock to see that it was passed midnight and began to climb out of my seat."I'm fine," she told me with a straight face and her eyes continued to look forward, "I'll leave in another hour. Come sit." Her voice sounded demanding, so I sat beside her on the couch and flung my arm around her shoulders.
"I'm guessing that you are having a great time?" I looked down at her with a smile.
She lightly hummed and shrugged her shoulders without saying a word. Her eyes met mine and I felt something different. There was no defiance or disconnection. It was as if I could actually see her, "It was alright." She finally said and turned away.
Her head rested on my shoulder and I smiled, "So, we can do this again?" I asked her and she slightly nodded while resting on my shoulder, "How about the beach? Do you like the beach?" Ian passed through the room with an unamused look on his face and moved towards the bedrooms.
"I don't like the water or sitting in the sand," she told me and lifted her head.
"So, is that a no?" I asked hesitantly.
"No, I just won't go in the water and I definitely won't sit there and build a sandcastle with you." She said quickly and sat up completely.
I nodded, "Well, may I have your number?" She handed me her phone and I programmed my number in her contacts. She did the same with my phone and I flashed her a quick smile.
After another two hours of talking she left my house. As I shut the door behind the beautiful girl, I hoped that Ian was asleep. When I turned around he was standing in the living room with his arms folded across his chest, "What the hell, man?" He shouted at me and flailed his arms, "Why the hell didn't you tell me that you were dating the freaky chick?"
"Wow," I said simply, offended by his comment, "First of all, she isn't a freaky chick, she is a girl. Secondly, you have no say in who I date."
"She's sitting on my cushion and parking in my spot," he said loudly, "I had to park on the street!"
"Oh! How embarrassing!" I yelped sarcastically and shook my head, "You're acting like an overprotective mom!"
"You're acting like you're someone else," he said firmly and I felt myself pulling back, "Since when is some girl more important than your friends?"
"She isn't," I said hesitantly, "Ian, you're my-"
He spoke before I could finish, "And I hope you remembered that we are filming 'Kiss Currency' tomorrow morning." He turned away and I placed my hand on my forehead. I had completely forgotten.
